I thought it was about time that we had more of an environmental emphasis on here so I set up this group.

I think it would be good if we made some sort of statement for what the group is about. I can try do a draft then show it everyone to suggest improvements. But I want it to be inclusive of all compatible ideologies represented RevLeft so it can include anarchists, socialists, communists etc

The main aspect I want to put across is that the environmental struggle is something that must be taken seriously by all the people on the left and that we should be raising awareness of how capitalist practices cause damage to the environment and that we, the people, need a sustainable environment to live off. I don't think that the left in general put enough emphasis on it, although there are some groups that are taking a better stance on environmental issues.

    Hey there!

I agree we should focus more on what a green alternative actually means.
    Some interesting material:
Planning Green Growth: a pamphlet on the feasability of a green planned economy as opposed to capitalism.
Socialism Today: monthly magazine from the SPEW with a regular column on the environment. In the latest issue: Will the downturn save the planet? A Green New Deal?.

I've just made a thread for related articles, so I've put links to them on there

Interesting, I saved it and will read it later on.
In what ways does its solutions differ from those in the SPEW pamphlet?

Just what is up with the "Human Progress Group"? Are they afraid that the revolution will fail if they can't drive to it in their King Cab pickup while shooting grey wolves and tossing Burger King wrappers out the window?

We need all the allies we can get, but I'd rather team up with one 'eco warrior' (true, proven activists) than a whole herde of Human Progress types.

Then again, if these guys really believe that the world's resources are limitless and our impact on the earth negligible, we need to keep track of them; their ideas, if ever implemented, could be disastrous.

Thanks for setting up the group.
On the comment above - it is good that we have here a forum where we can discuss ecosocialist ideas. As a techno-progressive and an ecosocialist I feel the need to criticise and find a path between both the utopian transhumanists and the primmo barbarians! Both those currents give me the creeps tbh....
A reading of Ken MacLeod's Fall Revolution novels is a good enjoyable way of starting to get to grips with the issues - he clearly illustrates the nightmarish possibile consequences of following either the regressive primmo or the techno-transhumanist utopian paths.

I just think that the problem between us and the technocrats is partly a barrier of language. We have to minimize our differences and play on what we have in common. isolated we are powerless.
