This is just a copy and paste from the first post in this http://www.revleft.com/vb/australia-...554/index.html thread. Oh, and don't forget the Trot Guide, http://slackbastard.anarchobase.com/?page_id=336 which is a funny read.

I decided to add a bunch of links for new people looking for stuff in Australia. Apologies if I leave some important organisation out. They are not organised in any real fashion. Also see http://anarchy.org.au/?page_id=4

The obvious groups in Australia on the 'left' are the Greens, you can look 'em up your self. Socialist Alliance and the youth group Resistance are mainly "Marxist" but apparently have some anarchists and other socialists (particularly independent often statist socialists) in their ranks.

Socialist Alternative exists in Melbourne and Sydney and I think Adelaide? Again a Marxist group, but most people around here will tell you to steer clear of them. (Directing you to either Socialist Alliance or one of the anarchist groups depending on what they feel like.)

Barricade Books is an anarchist group in Melbourne.
Jura Books is in Sydney, another anarchist book shop.

There is a new group in Brisbane of anarchists etc. that do stuff. Direct Action Collective. There is a thread about them http://www.revolutionaryleft.com/index.php...=ST&f=7&t=57521

I don't know of any anarchist groups in Tasmania or WA, but check out the local environment groups, often there are anarchists (sometimes not self identifying as though) hanging around.

Universities are often a good place to find leftists. Food not Bombs is good as well (they exist in Sydney and Melbourne at least, I don't know about other cities), as well as environment centres and food co-ops. However, sometimes you only find the Green sort rather then the radical or deep green sort. Unfortunate that.

Indymedia exists in a variety of places, I'll leave it to you to find out.

There is a group in Canberra called Treason.

The Australian Student Environment Network has a lot of anarchists in it. They also have lots of news around protests and stuff.

Fight dem Back is a good anti-racist organisation, they exist on both sides of the Tasman.

This thread http://www.revolutionaryleft.com/index.php...=ST&f=7&t=57501 has some more information that might be useful, particularly for Melbourne.
This thread http://www.revolutionaryleft.com/ind...howtopic=31615 has lots of different political organisations from around the world, including Australia and New Zealand.
This thread http://www.revolutionaryleft.com/ind...howtopic=49390 has stuff happening in Sydney (when it is updated anyway).
