It's fine by me - I didn't create it. I found most of these from browsing the net or off links from friends.

And I am sure the creators would want their messages spread - which is why they created them in the first place.

Stalin banned abortion in 1936 to stimulate the birth rate, and changed marriage law so that divorce was more difficult to obtain - clearly not a proponent of womens liberation. Just like Hoxha, another reactionary fuck.

Someone should take this Stalinist propaganda down - it's an insult to the women who have struggled for abortion rights.

Clearly someone like Trotsky, a racist wasn't a reactionary to you after the shit he said about Asians, clearly Trotsky was not a reactionary by killing all bourgeois landowners except his kulak of a father(giving him manangemnt in a factory) and clearly Bakunin was not really a reactionary after bashing on the Jews. If you are going to say Stalin is a reactionary for that, then Engels was a reactionary towards Homosexuals for saying they are disgusting and should be stopped, Bakunin was a reactionary because he hated jews, and Trotsky was a reactionary because he disliked Asians, of course we will never see you ever mention that as the degrees of seperation are too big and they are anachronisms, please do tell us is it fair to assume you are a racist just like the lies you have smeared against me saying it was ''ironic that a Hoxhaist is offended by people repressing women's rights(or something along those lines)", no? then hush up of course it is not fair.

I guess you should read an excerpt from The Platform of the American Party of Labor(which was written by myself, and edited and approved by our party with a membership of women, hispanics, disabled people, native Americans, and gays with our general secretary as a native american homosexual).

    Human Rights

    1. We demand an end to all anti-homosexual, bisexual, and transgender discrimination in spheres of employment, education, society and we condemn acts of violence against them.
    2. We support the legalization of same-sex marriage. Religious groups may or may not allow the practice but the State shall recognize and issue secular marriage licenses for same-sex couples.
    3. We demand an end to police brutality and racial profiling.
    4. We support Native American rights and call for full enforcement of all treaty rights and respect their right to secede and path to statehood if their needs are not met.
    5. We promote the dismantling of walls erected both physically and socially that hinder people with disabilities to fully participate in socialist society.
    6. We demand an end to discrimination, full employment and benefits for people with disabilities as well as quality education and job training programs.
    7. We fully support the reproductive rights of women including access to free abortion at any stage of pregnancy.
    8. We are against the intimidation of women and abortion clinics by reactionary "Pro-Life" Groups.
    9. We support the prevention of violence against women and children, and call on the State to actively protect women and children from battery and offenders.
    10. We are against prostitution and the unjust exploitation of women as sex slaves.
    11. We call for a minimum of 12 months paid leave for new mothers with access to fully funded and quality childcare centers.
    12. We support the right of women to enlist in the military to defend their country.
    13. We support the right of women to enter in any occupation without pressure to do or not to do so.
    14. We demand equal pay for men and women for equal work.
    15. We recognize that the large immigration from the U.S./Mexico Border is the cause of uncontrollable capitalism that forces millions of people to flee their homelands by the need to survive.
    16. We support the rights of all immigrants to education, health, civil, and legal rights.
    17. We support amnesty for undocumented workers so long as they have no violent criminal records.
    18. We are against police discrimination and raids against Hispanic citizen and immigrant communities.
    19. We support access to citizenship after five years of residency and no criminal records.
Yes clearly all ''Stalinist propaganda'' is reactionary jeez get over yourself. That itself looks like a program to any progressive group, so before you start generalizing people maybe you should learn we are not like you think we are.

Right, there is a difference between holding an Anti-Revisionist (or Stalinist as some people say) ideology, and implementing that ideology in this modern world in exactly the same ways in this day and age as the ideology was implemented under Stalin. It's about concept. The world situation was different back then. Keep in mind, this was a time when the majority of the world was much more backwards on the issue of women's rights than the world is today (though we still have a long way to go) to put it only on Stalin is sheer lunacy.

I would venture the position of women in the USSR was still much better than women in most Western countries at that point and the CP there did legalize it again in 1955, despite a strong cultural bias against it (citing it as a "necessary evil"). Most of the Western countries did not legalize abortion until well into the later decades of the 20th century, and divorce was all but impossible in say, Italy (with a large CP) until quite recently. It was certainly a step backwards, but I don't think saying a poster celebrating International Women's Day is reactionary propaganda is a particularly fair or historically accurate statement, not least of all because the poster pre-dates the things you are complaining about.

On the other hand, the posters comparing the acts of Stalin, which turned back gains already made, to racism in decades when such sentiment was common and an organized oppositional precedent not in place, seems a bit of a stretch as well. And, of course, we shouldn't be seeking to apologize or excuse any of those things but pointing out, quite rightly, that they were wrong in those areas while acknowledging any positive contributions they may have made, instead defend them wholesale.

Don't be ridiculous, the poster was from 1932 when women in the soviet union were by far the most liberated in the world. International Women's Day is a communist holiday that was celebrated both before and after the Stalin administration's (blaming Stalin personally is ridiculous, its not like abortion was banned by his personal decree) reactionary laws were enacted and repealed.

International women's day is a leftist counterpoint to the bourgeois pro-natalist mother's day that celebrates women only in a walking uterus capacity.

This is precisely how anarchists and communists should view women's rights in the USSR. Brilliant post.

Copies of this poster (and others) are available in for free from the Crimethinc website. The back side of it is really funny and thought provoking as well.

In fact, if anyone wants a copy, we have like 30 of them laying around that I would be happy to send.

This may be true, but the fact remains that many of the gains which had been made during the years following the October Revolution were reversed as a result of bureaucratic deformation. In addition to the restriction of abortion, the state also closed many of the nurseries and communal eating centers which had been established by the government, despite the economic pressures arising from the civil war. This was important because the closure of these facilities meant that women were unable to participate in politics in the same way as men (or to the same extent as previously) as they were forced to spend time at home attending to domestic tasks such as caring for children and preparing food. The socialization of functions which are normally carried out inside the nuclear family is an important prerequisite for womens liberation - and so the lack of progress in this area is a symptom of the degree of bureaucratic degeneration.

The bureaucratic state also awarded women who gave birth to many children - thus promoting the idea that the main role of women is to give birth to as many children as possible. This role was further supported through changes in marriage law so that it was more difficult to divorce, which signified a further departure from the legislation which had been implemented prior to degeneration.

Stalin may not have forced these regressive reforms by personal decree as such, because Stalin was simply the leader of a social stratum which was able to gain power through the social disintegration which occurred as a result of the civil war, and the failure of the revolution to spread to other states. However, the reactionary character of these reforms (relative to the achievements prior to degeneration) should be recognized - and criticized. The fact that a regression occurred means that the policy of the bureaucratic government cannot be justified as the result of backwards attitude or a lack of political education - rather, these reforms were indicative of the absence of political democracy, and the rise of the bureaucratic stratum.
