Worship of the common people, not single individuals should be one of our core values

    SensibleLuxemburgist
Too many times in history, have we seen a variety of leftists hinge their hopes on single individuals eschewing a form of popular socialism: Hugo Chavez, Fidel Castro, Daniel Ortega, Lula de Silva, Jose Mujica, Evo Morales, Rafael Correa, Nelson Mandela, Muammar Gaddafi, Joseph Kabila, etc. Once those hopes have been crushed with the fists of a strongman, we still in-admirably get sucked into the maelstrom of "anti-imperialism", "21st century socialism", "democratic socialism", "Maoism", "Stalinism", "Guevarism" but they veer us off from paying attention to the real social issues affecting their countries. They may try to fool us through illusions of grandeur (ex: Chavez getting into bed with reactionary Islamists under the banner of "anti-imperialism", Castro giving vehement support for all of the listed above people again under the banner of "anti-imperialism", Lula de Silva's promises of magical poverty-reducing oil profits that have yet to yield anything even 4 years into the presidency of his successor Dilma Roussef. We are tired of this and we want real socialists who give no quarter for colorful rhetoric and instead, elucidate the real goals of socialism to be comprehensive yet immediate.
