Recently at my school they had brought in a speaker named Terri C. Houston on Martin Luther King Jr. day to discuss the civil rights movement and protesting oppression in general. She talked about changing the system through legislature and peaceful protest and gave examples of success from Martin and other movements at the time. What she didn't do was mention his criticism of the entire system as a whole including capitalism, and left out militant groups like the Black Panthers and people like Malcolm X. What do you think of his image being taken advantage of by right wingers and liberals to further their cause when him and so many others were against the political and economic systems they believed in?
