American Party of Labor

Does anyone know if they're still active? Do we have any members here? They still update Red Phoenix almost every day but all the pictures of their rallies are several years old and I can't find any new ones.

They apparently do exist still, but I wouldn't really place much faith in parties founded on the internet.

From one person who has experience with the APL:
They won't grow to be anything, because they were constituted on the wrong basis to begin with...

A Marxist-Leninist party is formed on the basis of the demands of the times, as the fighting detachment of the working class, and the political expression of their aspirations; The APL arose because a bunch of tweens on the internet really thought Marxism was awesome, and thought it'd be cool to form a club. That's it.

Real ML parties begin by building practical organizations on a definite basis, and orienting their journalism and periodicals towards the class to build social consciousness.

The APL began by spending the next four years discussing the historical minutia of the cold war, and only ever speaking of socialism in the most abstract hypothetical sense, with premature delusions of grandeur as their foundation (i.e. what are we going to do after we win?)

This is why the APL will never grow into anything, nor will any other American "Communist" party out there today ( with the possible exception of USMLO, but they have their own problems as well). All of them were also formed on the " I'm a commie, you're a commie too; let's have a club, and build a fort!" mentality. They still have yet to make the concerns of the class their own, and they still have yet to provide leadership to the class in it's initiatives, or build anything resembling workers organizations. When they do pay attention to the present, it is always looking over-seas with that "revolution everywhere but here" type of mentality...

They are not a working class organization, and this will be their downfall.

I see. Are there any other anti-revisionist parties that are a bit more active in the USA?

Hello, comrade "Questionable." I am a member of the APL. The APL is still active and well. You can take a look at the APL and their program from the following sites.

The party website (with the platform and program):
    http://americanpartyoflabor.org/

    The Red Phoenix newspaper :
    http://theredphoenixapl.org/

    The Revolutionary Spirit (theoretical journal):
    http://revolutionaryspiritapl.blogspot.com/

Take a look at these pages, and see if anything on these pages contradict the foundation of Marxism-Leninism.

For the record, you should judge a political organization by what they produce, rather than what other people say about them.

Very well. My apologies if I offended anybody, but as I said in the OP there's a lack of information about the APL and I was worried about wasting my time with an internet party. I read Red Phoenix almost daily and am very impressed with the work that is produced. I applied for the APL on the main website but I haven't received an email yet (Am I supposed to?), the website mentions offering assistance to organize a local branch and that's definitely something I'd be interested in once I got to know the party better.

All is well, comrade. Someone should respond to you soon.

I looked into APL for a while. I had to inquire twice to get an answer back, but eventually they sent me a questionnaire re: ML theory, etc., and said that they would set up a Skype interview once they heard back from me. I decided to go elsewhere, for my own reasons, but I find the Red Phoenix an excellent news source that posts quite often. They are on my RSS feed thingy.

    Plus, their logo totally rocks!

Where was the elsewhere you decided to go? If you don't mind my asking.

The Party for Socialism and Liberation (PSL). They have a strong presence in my area (Chicago), and I agree with their program and platform. They have a very good newspaper (Liberation News), and they're actually active on the streets. I'm probably at the far left of their political spectrum, but they are a revolutionary communist party, so I can get behind that. And I really like all the people I've met there.

Beware...there are quite a few people on RevLeft with very anti-PSL opinions. I don't mind intelligent criticism, but some people seem to have a visceral reaction to the party.

    To each, his own.

Must be nice. There are no leftist political parties anywhere near me (I'm from Kentucky), except for some weird thing called the "Bluegrass Socialist Party" that appears to be a blend between some weird Trotskyism and reformism.
