The new (not yet official) Revleft YouTube channel

This discussion is for those of you who wish to help out with establishing a new revleft YouTube channel. From here we can handle everything such as gathering volenteers to write scripts, animate, narrate, fact-check and discuss ideas in general. We can nominate and vote for maintainer of the new channel as we come closer to the completion of our first video.

This list will be updated on a daily(ish) basis to keep track of who wants to do what.

    Script writers: Positivist, ComingUpForAir

    Animators:

    Narrators:

    10 myths about Marxism run-down

    "Why is there unemployment?"

    "Austerity- the poorest solution"

Feel free to suggest any more positions/ ideas that may be important to the production process as we want this to be done as absolutely entertainingly and informatively as possible.

I'd be happy to help with writing as well --

My first initial idea is simple: 10 Commons Myths About Marxism

It'd be cool if it was animated or otherwise nicely presentable so that it could draw more traffic -- but obviously the name speaks for itself, a run down of myths so that people can stop dismissing marxism off-hand.. people need to be forced to think about it before they can break the barrier and a youtube channel is such a great way to go about that. It'd be great if we could come up with a list --

1 - People are naturally selfish
2 - Communism always leads to dictatoship

    etc etc

That is a great idea. I had previously suggested that we appproach each "myth about Marxism" (this was a great name for it) in a separate video and perhaps we can still do that through a series bearing the name you've suggested.

Indeed, this would be a great addition to our first video. We could point out the difference between everything that happened in the 20th century (all of our opinions on it being irrelevant) and what Marx and Engles' themselves actualy said and did.

EDIT: also the Idea list has been updated with the new workflow sheet, many thanks ckaihatsu!

What about some videos that deal with the problems people are experiencing such as:

    "Why is there unemployment?"
    "Austerity - the poorest solution"

Something that takes a problem for working people and places it within a greater ideological framework.

Updated, very good ideas indeed let's keep this up. Added the position of translators (for any languages) who would like to translate and/or narrate our scripts for the rest of the non-English speaking world. Also added some nice underscores to keep our ideas sectioned off from the rest.

EDIT: I would suggest we study the style of videos made by YouTube users like these:

    http://www.youtube.com/user/cgpgrey?...e=results_main

    http://www.youtube.com/user/minuteph...e=results_main

Take note of their ability to be very informative, entertaining and still manage to have a large amount of subscriber as well.

I absolutely agree, amongst our projects should definitely be class based analysis of relevant social issues (racism, sexism, heterosexism, unemployment, recession(!), austerity.) Historical explanations and defenses are still useful, but will not be as appealing to the regular worker. We should probably divide explicit defense of socialist ideas and critiiwue of capitalist ideas into two different channels.

I'm not the most knowledgeable on the various topics of communism, but I'd love to help in any way I can.

This is very ambitious, but the style of channels like

    QualiaSoup and
    TheraminTrees

are both engaging and superbly well articulated and beautifully rendered artistically.

The QualiaSoup Model really speaks for itself -- it's not going to alienate anyone or force a view that many feel is uncomfortable... and it also tells a story and could make Marxism less toxic to people. I remember before I became a Marxist but still considered myself a progressive I thought of Marxism as dangerous and too far left. Obviously it will take videos that kind of run it down in an interesting way for people to be amenable. Channels like RedNickD are great but it'd be nice to have an animated angle -- I can't really do animation but I could help write scripts!

Anything happening with this? Your thread probably needs to be stickied for larger participation in this project.
