So post and neo marxism don't appear to be too popular here on revleft. We have about 5 members between two groups. Still five is more than one and if you guys are in we should start some discussions, but first we all need to get on one group. I'll post something in the postmarxism group about coming o er here.
It seems counter-intuitive to me, that so many cling to old-fashioned ideas like Stalinism and maoism and none that address the obvious shift Marxism needs in order to remain relevant in todays world. Marx addressed a world still reeling from the Industrial Revolution - we are dealing with a world that still has decades to understand the massive societal changes wreaked by the internet and instant global communication. In short - Neo/Post/Plus/W/e Marxism ftw!
I think part of it is because the term gets associated with the Frankfurt school. But, the point really is to address the contemporary actions of capitalism. Capital Market Liberalization, Vertical Integration, International Political Economy/World System Theory, organizations like the IMF,WTO, and World Bank, Transnational Corporations, Etc.
I also think the development of marketing and commercialism have substantially served to shape human subjectivities. Do you guys wanna discuss any of these topics in depth?
You pick a topic and I'll talk about it haha. Being a poli sci major does have some perks =P
I believe that I am undereducated in contemporary capitalist actions so how about we start with Capital Market Liberalization.
Jook, are you referring to the financial takeover of the global markets? (By financial takeover, I mean the movement away from ownership by oligarchs or family to investment banks, hedge funds, etc.)
