It goes without saying that Professor Chomsky is a brilliant theoretician and a fantastic person in general, but one thing about him still bothers me. He tends to endorse the Democrat in the general elections. I used to be a "pragmatist" too, so I can understand to some extent, but Chomsky should be smarter than this, right?

I generally enjoy Chomsky for his amazing critiques of American foreign policy, Israel, and the media. Stuff like this makes me not care for his political analysis.

Chomsky has stated that if the differences are significant between the parties, you should vote for the lesser evil. He's given the example of the Democratic opposition to George W. Bush as being a possible alternative to the Iraq War.

He's also a member of the Democratic Socialists of America, which uses the Democratic Party as a vehicle to push for progressive change provided there is no viable independent or third-party opposition. That might influence his position.
