Socialism in Star Wars

Which organizations in Star Wars (either the main trilogies or the expanded universe) promoted socialism or some other left-wing ideology?

The Rebel Alliance was clearly anti-imperialist and anti-fascist.

I agree. I'm more familiar with the movies than the expanded universe but I could see the Jedi practicing something comparable to liberation theology.

    How so?

In my understanding, the Jedi (or at least some Jedi) seem to fight any type of oppression where ever they find it.

Well, the Rebel Alliance was surely devoid of the necessary vanguard party role which it would need to properly implement socialist ideology in the wake of the bourgeois revolution witnessed at the end of ROTJ.

And there is the issue of the movement being lead by a princess, or a member of the aristocracy, as opposed to leaders firmly in support of the interests of the intergalactic proletariat. I mean, princess leia, she doesn't even try to hide her connections to the monarchy.

The Rebel Alliance is certainly a bourgeois organization. It's goal is to bring back the republic, which was a capitalist representative democracy. The rebellion is quietly supported by a small number of corporations (makers of a number of their ships), as well as non-human groups (notably the Mon Calamari - makers of the big lumpy ships in rotj) who are subject to the racism of the imperials. There is nothing anti-capitalist about the rebellion in star wars, there is nothing socialist about the rebellion, they are anti-fascist for sure, but still reactionary.

Unfortunately Star Wars is pretty devoid of good politics.

Star Wars is completely devoid of politics, since it's an action movie that is supposed to be enjoyed by little kids. The rebels are bourgeois as fuck though, when I realized that I stopped liking star wars.

The Baragwin are more or less communists though, I was a huge star wars geek.

In the EU there exists a galactic stock market so yeah, socialism is out on a galactic scale.

Obviously the political "Dark Side" of the force is described as Separatists and Imperialist. Thus being an enemy of leftism.
The Galactic Republic is still capitalist, nonetheless. While being anti-imperialism, they're nothing more than a galactic republic with democratic ideas. Not socialist.
And the Jedi are a monastic order, with a little bit of monarchic ideologies.

Basically, there is little to no socialist ideologies that play a major role in the Star Wars universe.
