Does anyone else find it extremely hard to share your views with the mostly conservative populace of the midwest?

I do with the conservatives. But I have also met my fair share of lefties in the region. Actually, the Midwest was one of the hottest spots for the Socialist Party of America back in the first half of the 20th century. Many socialists served as local and state politicians in the Midwest back then. Some of them were very small rural towns. Although the rural areas of the Midwest are largely conservative and Republican-voting these days.

The Socialist Party USA has offices in Wisconsin, Ohio, Michigan, Nebraska, Illinois and Indiana. The Communist Party USA has offices in Michigan, Illinois, Indiana, and Minnesota. The Revolutionary Communist Party has locations in Michigan, Illinois, and Ohio. The Party for Socialism and Liberation has locations in Illinois and Ohio. There are of course more.

I live in Missouri and everyone (outside of Kansas City, and St. Louis) is Tea Party. I live in a city of about 60,000 people and I'm known as the commie. When I lived in Chicago, I knew a lot of leftists.

The midwest is definitely its own part of the country, in terms of their outlook. Much like music or fashion, ideas take a while to get here from either coast. It also depends on the state. Most midwestern states are "purple", Illinois being more left of center than Indiana, etc. Chicago is a good place for communists, because there is a pretty active community, relatively. It is pretty splintered though, which is unfortunate. This is ISO Country, and they tend to elbow others out, IMHO. The CPUSA is inert here, in their grand recent tradition LOL. Don't know much about how active PSL or any of the others are...I'm looking into the American Party of Labor, and I don't think they have much of a presence in Chicago. Perhaps if I decide to join them, I can help to bring that presence.

I live in south-west Missouri and I find it hard to discuss far left ideas. That is why I joined this forum.

I live in the thumb of Michigan where there is a ton of right wing militia where ever you go, so it was not only hard to discuss your ideals, but in some areas dangerous. Now I am up at a very conservative college in the U.P. and find it just as hard, but not as dangerous.
