    Queen to pay state visit to Irish Republic this year

    The Queen is to pay a state visit to the Irish Republic this year, the first by a British monarch for a century, Buckingham Palace has announced.

    Queen Elizabeth II accepted an invitation from the Republic's President Mary McAleese.

    Her grandfather, George V, was the last serving monarch to visit the country in 1911 when it was then part of the UK.

    The success of the Northern Ireland peace process is thought to have made the visit possible.

    It will be interesting to see how the Irish take this visit, how is the British Monarchy viewed in the republic today?

    The craven West Brit media and politicians will be fawning all over her. As will the Gombeen men who think her visit will boost buisness. Its going to be sickening stuff. Anyone protesting against it will be portrayed as a nutter or extremist. Either that or most of the protests will be ignored by the media as much as possible.

    Its been an embaressing few days in Irish history.
    Monarchism being portrayed as progressive, a war criminal being portrayed as a hero, it really is as if the lunatics have taken over the asylum, everything is upside down and inside out, disgusting.
