Membership figures?

Where does the PSL stand compared to other American Leninist organizations as far as membership is concerned?

It's not exactly prudent to publicly discuss membership numbers of a revolutionary organization in public, especially when right-wing elements patrol these pages all the time. Even so, I couldn't tell you any real solid numerical data as I don't have access to it. I don't even know if anyone does. We're one of the largest groups on the left and one of the few that has managed to recruit youth exponentially. Watching other groups flounder around and struggle to keep moving forward when they cannot recruit is pretty tiring, but we don't suffer from that dilemma.

I was asking for more of a ballpark figure, but I do understand why you may not wish to discuss such things on an internet forum.

Regardless I'm glad to hear that the PSL is doing so well, the PSL certainly does seem to have a knack for recruiting youth.

Not to be too pessimistic, but if that was the outstanding truth, than why doesn't a youth branch exist yet? I actually remember reading on one thread a while ago that the PSL has few young people (according to one poster whose name I forget).Or is it that they don't yet have enough, but are quickly gaining to that area, where creating a youth branch would be a reality?

Have you ever encountered the PSL before? The massive numbers of youth that have joined the party is one of the reasons we are so dynamic and energetic. At our National Conference on Socialism that was attended by over 600 people, it was incredible to see how many young people were joining the party. The branch in my city consists of people who are all under 25. I was just in Pittsburgh last weekend and the people there, aside from a couple, were all under 25.

Because we're so active in the ANSWER Coalition, which has a Youth and Student section, that has served as our primary youth organization. Whoever said that we have few young people has either never encountered the PSL or is intentionally trying to slander us. I could ask five people on here I know who know PSL members but are not in the party and they would all say that our recruitment of youth cadres is one of our best accomplishments.

Why leave it to the ANSWER coalition though? I figure having a specific youth branch (one that is the PSL's own) would be more benifical.

Frankly, I don't see it as necessary. Other socialist groups have youth groups that are so unsuccessful that it isn't even funny. We're the fastest growing socialist organization in the country and we're recruiting people from all walks of life. People are seeing the different ways the struggle affects them and they know that we need a revolutionary alternative. The PSL is building that alternative.

Which makes it clear that those groups didn't know what they were doing (not if tehy were so unsuccessful).I would agree that it largly doesn't really matter if your youth members do not have their own structure, but I still would call it an improvement over simply incorporating them into the larger, over all, structure.

With a youth branch, the PSL would only have more reason to recruit young people, since there is the constant allure of said youth having a real say in their political organization and how it is run.A group where they are surrounded by others of their age;a place (structure) where they can organize and shre their experiance with others in their age group.

Perhaps this is a question to ask the Party leaders?

Party members are allowed to propose ideas or concerns to leading party bodies. If members felt it necessary to have a youth group, it would be proposed. It may be in the future, but it is not a pressing issue right now. We are currently experiencing rapid growth, especially in regards to youth and student activists.
