Introductions

  1. Sentinel
    Sentinel
As this group consists of both CC members and regular members, I thought the HPG forum could have use for an introduction thread. Tell us a bit about yourself and your motivation behind the decision to join our group -- as well as your visions of what the group should stand for, what it should do, and what kinds of things we should discuss here.

Please remember, however, that this is not a private forum, nor is it part of the CC -- discretion on CC issues, as well as personal information, is a required necessity, even though the forum is visible for all CC members besides the group members.

I'm a 27 years old syndicalist union member from Stockholm. I joined RevLeft in 2005, and did serve one year (2006-2007) as Mod of the Sciences & Environment forum. I'm also a transhumanist, which gives me a positive attitude towards technological progress and a dislike towards bioconservatism and biocentrism.

I find it extremely useful to have a group like ours, for comrades who feel the same. Now that we finally get beyond the initial anthropocentrism vs biocentrism debate (which is getting god damn old) as the biocon voices are left out, we can actually talk about how exactly we envision the human progress we agree to support, to look like!

So far the new groups feature has filled it's purpose well, in my opinion. When no longer under constant pressure from leftists with radically different positions, revlefters have now started to debate within their own 'camps' so to speak. This has caused a bit of new tension, but it has also made us more introspective and allowed for more indepth debate, on the more complicated issues. It's helps consolidating, crystallising our views, as well as makes us 'look in the mirror' and review our personal positions more closely and critically.

    Yay for us!

23 year old technocrat from Umeå, Sweden. I am one of the founders of the Network of European Technocrats.

My interests also involves writing, reading, electronic music, mythology and ancient civilisations.
  3. RedAnarchist
    RedAnarchist
I'm a 21 year old from Preston in Northern England. I'm an anarchist-communist politically.

My interests include politics, genealogy, reading, going to the gym, writing poems and short stories and just generally "surfing" the Internet.

I wanted to join because I believe that technology will be far better exploited after we get rid of capitalism. I also agreed with the membership requirements.

I think the groups thing is a good idea - by being able to debate with the most like-minded in separate subforums, we allow ourselves to be better debaters in the rest of the forum. I think that in the long term it will cut down drmatically on sectarian feelings and will help keep the board more united. It may also attract new and more active members.

My name is Matthew Brehe. I identify with Marxism. I am 25 and currently living in Seattle WA, USA. I have a BA in history from Carroll College, a small Catholic college in Montana, but before that I studied computer science for two years at the University of Montana. I am a vegan and have been for about 8 years, and in the past I have worked with numerous animal welfare organizations.

I have been using computers since the early 1980s. My family purchased a Apple //c in 1981 and I grew up using it until we purchased a 386 running windows 3.1 back in the early 90s. I've been actively programming on the internet since the mid-90s, although after my stint at UofM, it has become more of a hobby than a career path. Despite that, I am still deeply interested in developments in computer software, the GNU movement, and currently the CC movement, to name a few.

I am not a Star Trek nerd, nor a science fiction reader. I will probably not entertain discussions that talk about distant future technologies. I'm interested in current research and how developing technologies can assist humans and be used to undermine capitalism.

    --

edit: I got all nostalgic and did some searching for some of the crap I made in the 1990s. Textfiles.com still has an old phreaking program I made back in like '97 or '98. Scroll a few pages down and look for "chimjunk.zip": http://cd.textfiles.com/hackersencyc/PROGRAMS/FILES.HTM

I used to host a big website called "chim's junk" with phreaking tools. private PBX's and shit people found from war dialing. I never really did much of it myself in real life other than biege box from telephone polls and dial into telephone bulletin board systems, which was basically like group voice mail discussions. Imagine if revleft was done on a phone and you get the idea.

Hi. I'm a 19 year old dude from the "sunny" shores of Blighty, although having stated my age and compared it with others here I feel I should perhaps of waited before joining

Politically I suppose I am a syndicalism-sympathetic anarchist technocrat (although, in order to stay politically relevant by Wat Tyler's definition I prefer "anarchist technocrat"). I am also a Transhumanist - with all that entails, I have a specific interest in the singularity and its ramifications for the rest of society.

I joined because I was fed up of the disruption caused by biocons and other unwanted reactionaries in S&E. I also agree broadly with the aims and principals of the HPG.

As it seems to be what the cool kids are doing: My interests include reading (nearly everything), writing (short & longer stories - unpublished), fucking about on the computer, listening to or playing music and tabletop roleplaying & battle games.
  6. Cult of Reason
    Cult of Reason
I am 19 years old and currently residing in the UK. Unlike most from here I have the option of moving to someplace else, with very little hassle, when/if things get fucked up. Citizenship in a Nordic country is a wonderful thing.

I describe myself as an Anarchist Communist Technocrat (as that does reflect in some way my vision of the progression of society), although due to length restrictions and, now, Wat Tyler's definition of political relevance, my user title is simply Anarchist Technocrat, which I also self-describe as.

I joined, well, just because, really. I am a Technocrat and Communist and, therefore, should be progressive by definition. In addition, it allows discussion of some subjects away from interruption.

I joined RevLeft near the beginning of 2006, with a burst of activity in informing people of Technocracy (and, if I remember correctly, I was voted 'new member of the year' or some such), and joined the CC soon afterwards. I have never held any administrative position, because my activity is intermittant, I never volunteered and no one ever nominated me. I probably would be crap at it anyway.

My free time is spent in front of my computer, for the most part. I use it mainly for browsing, watching anime or other TV shows, occasional game playing and, currently, for working on my own little propaganda project. I have no life.

    ÑóẊîöʼn
I am a 20 year old (soon to be 21) male currently living in Slough. I have been on Revleft for a good few years and described myself as many things, but I think the best thing you could currently describe me as would an anarcho-transhumanist, although I have no affiliation with any such groups. I find Technocracy highly interesting but I feel I do not know enough to fully commit to it as part of my personal ideology.

My vision for the future is for humanity to spread out into the universe, diversifying and occupying as many niches as possible, to advance technology as far as we can to the best of our abilities, and to probe the deepest secrets of the universe and turn them to our use. To that end we must eliminate scarcity-based economies (including capitalism), providing the basis for a decent quality of life for every human (or Transhuman). We must also eliminate religion and superstition, as an addition to being the basis for a multitude of cruelties and absurdities, it pathologically warps our view of the universe, therefore stunting our progress.

Well, I joined around here because I'm a convinced Atheist and generally agree with technological progress. I'm very new to all this Transhumanism, Technocracy, and the like, so I came around here to learn. I may not post much though, I'm just basically reading the expert's words

I would encourage you to post as frequently as possible - even if it's just questions - we need a vibrant forum with as many different people of as many different understandings posting

I am 25, from Co. Durham, Britain. I joined because I agree full-heartedly with the group's mission statement. I am an atheist humanist Marxist who believes that worker-controlled technology can bring plenty, as well as eliminate scarcity and propel research & development for rapid technological growth.

I despise anti-technology variants of the left as reactionary unscientific moralist-idealists who spread harmful pseudoscience and pseudomedical practices.

Hi. I'm 15 I currently reside in Bearsden (the posh bit of Glasgow) I'm one of 2 leftists in school. I've travelled right across the political spectrum, from freemarketeer a few years back, to communist, then Trotskyist. I now Identify myself as Anarchist. I'm aso new too this whole Transhumanist thing but I'm interested in learning. I'm a militant Athiest and anti Zionist, FAscist, Stalinist.

My interests include, reading(most things), TV, Working with the Glasgow Palestine Human RIghts Movement, phlisophical debate, music (mostly punk but alot of other stuff as well) and of course Politics. It should be added that I have no life and it's gotten so bad that going out in the sun damages my skin( In Glasgow this isn't a problem really because of the rain)

Just a quick note, you should check out a thread called "Workers of the world unite?" (you'll find it in the very beginning when you look into my posts) and check out the posts between me and a member called Communist FireFox and me and member called bloody_capitalist_sham on Militant Atheism. Then, if you like, you should PM me with any critiques and we'll have a nice discussion I'm rather critical of Militant Atheist ideas.

I am too. I view religion as a consequence of class alienation, not a cause. see this thread. I agree with Marx that it isn't worth the time to attack the idea of religion, although members like LSD (and sentinel?) disagree and prefer a more antagonistic perspective.
  16. INDK

Well, I think suppression of religion should be applied as religion attempts to suppress us. As a product of alienation, ultimately what controls this alienation will become an organ of class rule. I just think we should fight who we need to. Marx himself pretty much agreed with exactly this. But this isn't the place for that, if you want to discuss anything just PM me.

Religion doesn't control social alienation. It is a coping mechanism for it.

I'm tolerant of religious Faiths but I am opposed to religious assemblies in schools. I'm don't believe in God of course but I don't quite hate religion. militant Athiest may have been the wrong way to put it.

I'm also ambidextrous, wear glasses and have a scuba certification.

I am in my late 20's and i live in western britain. I work in a civil service role and in my spare time i am a mathematics student.

I would describe myself as a marxist socialist with strong technocratic influences. I believe that automated production and education should be the bedrock of building a socialist society.

Hi i'm from Australia, currently living in a town full of old people and christians.

I'm 18 and my interests include reading, politics, writing short stories (i wish i could write novels but i don't have the attention span) and bad poetry. I also enjoy playing role-playing games, the nerd I am and all.

I am unsure about my current political allegiances at the moment. I used to identify as an anarchist, but recently my beliefs have been shaken up, causing me to reevaluate them.
  24. Dystisis
    Hello, I am from Norway.

Even though I am interested in politics and ideologies I do not confine myself to a single one, as I consider that idiotic. In general you could say I am sympathetic towards some aspects of anarchism, some of marxism and much of "ultra-left" communism. Together with technocracy, that would make my "ideology".

I am also interested in philosophy. Most specifically, the relationship between mathematics, geometry, nature, music, and in general how mathematics and geometry relate to everything in the universe. I think intellectual progress and research amongst the people is important.

In my "not-messing-around-at-forums" time I play percussion with a band and go to school.

    Hi there,

I'm a communist/socialist currently living in the UK, although I have grown up in Poland and later in Germany. I've joined this group because I'm interested, and according to what I know so far supportive of transhumanism.

I agree with everything in the introductory notes to this forum, except maybe I'm a bit less radical when it comes to religion: although I don't want it to have an influence in public life and would gladly see it wither away, I wouldn't want to force anyone to abandon religion. Lenin didn't try because he knew he couldn't do it, and in this I'm very old-school.

Hi Y'all, I'm an 18yo from Melb Australia. I recognize and embrace the increasing role technology will play in creating a sufficient self-sustaining society, combating the problems our species faces in a rapidly changing climate and improving the quality of life for all.
As such I highly identify with technogaianism as well as some of the concepts presented by the technocrats on revleft.
Religion hampers human progress in an age of reason, I guess that goes without saying.
Anyway I look forward to learning more

Hi, I'm a 22yo Australian that currently lives in the Philippines, I come here every six months and spread my time in the year between here and Australia.

I am a marxist and I am strongly for marxist/anarchist technocracy as we advocate here, or as I call it - techno-marxism. Outside of this my general political basis is anarcho-communism.

I joined this group primarily as I would like to see our views proliferated more. I believe that what we advocate is the way forward for marxism and anarchism in general and that it is this we as a broad movement need to align ourselves with, and distance ourselves from/get rid of "the old crap" like Leninism.

I'm an anarchist communist who is very pro-technology and enjoy cybernetic theory. I dislike the term technocracy as I'm strictly a humanist, feeling that human lives are primary and technology is only a tool to aid in our lives. I draw heavily on Marxian theory, though I don't consider myself a Marxist. I just think Marxism contains better economic critiques than most of the rest of the left.

    Cheers!

17, live in South Florida, I'm Marxist who supports all technological innovation that enhances our lives as human beings. I believe that we need to strive to educate people about alternative forms of political, economic, and social organization; as well promote an atheist/materialist philosophy.
