Good collections of Gramsci

I have two currently: "Pre-Prison Writings", edited by Richard Bellamy and published by Cambridge, and the "Selections from the Prison Notebooks" edited and translated by Quintin Hoare and Geoffrey Nowell Smith. I believe those are the best selection of Gramsci books available to those able to read English.

There are bits of his work scattered everywhere. Marxists.org has a small collection but has yet to get his major works. Others are in Italian.

I will however try to go through my two books and post notable selections from his writings. I have no means to do this other than manually typing them out(I will try and use my scanner to see what results that yields, so bear with me.

Again, if you are able to, please consider procuring a physical copy so that the publishers are getting something back.

Yes, that is a scan of an entire book. It is a broad selection of his many works, and is a valuable asset. I've taken a look through it and the quality is decent. I will try to pick out some notable ones for discussion. Thanks for the contribution!

No probs. I've been thinking of reading Gramsci for a while, i even bought selections from the prison notebooks, but you know how it is; so much to read, so little time

Is it better to read it from the first page to the last, or do you have any recommendations about which texts to start with? I've read some 20 pages on "The history of praxis", and found it pretty easy and good - at least in the beginning.

Really any order is fine, as long as you read the notes all in one grouping, such as his concepts on "American and Fordism", or "State and Civil Society". It really doesn't matter what order you read them, as long as you read the relevant sections that are united by an overlying theme.

I assume you know then about his terminology and what not he was using due to the prison censors?

I've gone ahead and updated the original post with some of the scans of the pre-prison writings and the excellent hoare edition of selections from prison notebooks.

If anyone of you know Italian, the entirety of Gramsci's prison notebooks is available in an unabridged form.

The original links have either been taken down or the sites themselves have been shut down. I have gone ahead and replaced the links with new ones.

I rented a copy of Selections from the Prison Notebooks. I'm trying to pace myself well and will hopefully get through it in a reasonable amount of time. I just recently finished the handy little "general introduction" on the history of the ICP and its relations with the Comintern and Russia. Now it's time to get into the actual writings of Gramsci!

Not that this matters, or anything. I'm just hoping this group will be at least a little active as somewhere to ask questions about it, so I thought I'd post something.

I check the website frequently enough to discuss things. I was originally going through writings on my own and posting cliff-note like stuff, but I never got to the prison notebooks. Maybe I should get around to that some day. At any rate feel free to ask what ever.
