Just wondering, why have you chosen to use "UK" in our group name? Personally, I refuse to associate myself with the aristocratic monarchy that controls our country today. Obviously using "Britain" would be the better choice, especially for us Socialists...

Because despite its bourgeoisie connotations, 'UK' remains the collective term for the main territory as well as all of the dependent satellite territories such as The Isle of Mann, Gibraltar, Ascension island and the Falklands that willingly come under its jurisdiction (i intentionally leave Northern Ireland out as it is different historical semantics).

'Britain' only applies to England, Scotland and Wales.

No, I'm pretty sure Ireland counts as Britain too. There's a reason it's called the British ISLES and not the British ISLE. :/

I'm pretty sure every Irish revolutionary ever would disagree with you.

Draconid, look at a map of the UK -there's certainly more than one island.

That reason is the isle of man, the isle of wight, the channel islands and all the other little pieces of guff floating around it. Ireland is quite seperate from britain which is why the country is called the United Kingdom of Great Britain & Northern Ireland.

Yeah well, no offence, but Irish revolutionaries basically like to ***** about everything Britain does. The fact remains that, GEOGRAPHICALLY, Ireland is part of Britain and is therefore technically British. Infact, it is us English who are the least British people, we're just immigrants from mainland Europe. :/

Jesus thats pure like revolutionaries to ***** about their imperialist occupier? Fucking socialists eh?

GEOGRAPHICALLY Ireland is part of Ireland. Britain is defined as referring to the island taking in england wales and scotland, while the term United Kingdom refers to the 6 counties of northern ireland also.

Sorry if your national chauvinism can't see that Ireland is its own country and is not 'British'.

Ireland isn't geographically part of Britain though. It's part of the British Isles, a seperate geographic category, which where I think you're confused.

Lets just clear this up again.

    Great Britain = British Mainland
United Kingdom = British mainland + Northern Ireland
British Isles = British mainland + all of Ireland

    I don't name the names.

    I always thought it was:

Great Britain = Britain and Ireland
    Britain = England, Wales, Scotland
British Isles = Britain and Ireland

UK = England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland, uk owned territories
Britain = Great Britain = England, Scotland, Wales
British Isles = Great Britain(England, Scotland, Wales), Ireland(North+South), and over 6000 small islands around there

    Thats why the Internet's here

Communist Guy is almost correct, except territories like Isle of Mann, the Channel Islands, etc, don't count as part of the UK.

So the name of this group really does just refer to England, Scotland, Wales, and occupied Ireland. Er and Cornwall. If you wanna include the surrounding islands then maybe British Isles is more appropriate than UK. It would include Ireland too though i think. Plus a geographical themed name would be nicer anyway, imo

edit; the group picture is just Britain and the Isle of Man. If that's the case might as well just call it 'british revolutinaries', if you dont want to include ireland.

...because it's the name of the country/nation...whether you agree with it or not, that's what it is right now.
And re the issue of does it include all the territories considered part of the British Isles or not? Is it including Isle of Mann? etc etc...split hairs much?

Let's just take it as read it's for people who live in the cluster of land and islands that are generally known as the UK.
