How necessary is it that people on the aytistic spectrum have a group on their own? It's not that I'm trying to swell my group or anything but I know we have a large number of largely empty groups, so....
Generally, identity politics should be avoided. Class should come before all other distinctions. Still, there is still a place for this group. It is about as important as a group for homosexuals or women.
