Our first vidya.

    Hello all,

I'm aware that we just started the project a matter of days ago, but I feel we should get a thread up and start laying down some useable ideas about what we will put into our first video, even if it takes a while as others are still, to my knowledge, getting necessities (hardware, software, etc) together, Q (I presume) is waiting for the voiceover competition entries to come in and we are still unsure about filling the different roles for creating the videos.

An issue I especially wanted to bring up is our general opinions on the Soviet Union, Cuba and North Korea. I doubt I need to comment on China but I'm sure many of us have varying ideas about the validity of these nations' claims to socialism and the like. So whether we want to reach a consensus, decide on a compromise or something completely different, I think we should discuss this.

    Thoughts, comrades?

By the way, once Glenn Beck's bullshit program is available to torrent maybe we could refute that?

An often heard remark in this thread is that people want to a basic fact video on what is wrong with capitalism. I think that we should focus on this for three simple reasons:
    1. We need to start with something concrete. Pointing out what is wrong with capitalism is a good place to start. People are simply no going to care about what we think of the USSR, but want our views on contemporary issues like, for example, Haiti.
    2. We need to keep it short and simple for our first video, we don't want to make our first project too difficult.
    3. Making a video on Cuba, USSR, etc is going to open a whole new can of worms among ourselves. Political agreement on this issue is a bridge too far at this point I think and it would put up an unnecessary hurdle for the project.
  4. Tablo
Good idea. One thing everyone from the most hardcore Marxist-Leninist to the most libertarian Anarchist can agree upon is that Capitalism is shit.

our first video should probably be what Q said, but our second should be a refutation of Beckist thought, and general knowledge of communism/socialism/anarchism.

Yeah, this is probably the best way to go. We should get some people interested with that.

Glenn Beck really is doing his best to fuck everything up for us, so this should be a high priority IMO.

While a video damning capitalism is obviously a good thing, very soon we need some video's addressing the most common criticism of communism.

The most common line against communism is that it 'it looks good on paper'. We really need some videos that destroy the concept that communism is practically unattainable.

There is the possibility of being able to do more than one video at a single time. Once we figure out what is needed and how much of what resources we have available, we could perhaps organize production teams.

In other words, perhaps take a "sword and shield" route. While one team makes a video attacking the foundations of capitalism, another could perhaps fend off assaults on Socialist & Marxist ideology.

I have alot of ambitions in making music videos and historical correct documentaries about leftist organistations/struggles (not about boring philosphers)

I don't think that going to refute Glenn Beck directly is such a bright idea, because:
    1. It only acknowledges him as an authority
    2. Outside the US, no one has ever heard of Glenn Beck

I agree we should be refuting the ideas like those defended by Beck though.
  11. Tablo
To start we should focus on exposing the failure of capitalism, then we can see what can be done from there.

I think the best thing todo is to make serval projects at the time, then everybody can contribute to the projects while they are being done. What we need now is getting started! we need a person who is responsible for the project, someone who has good responsibility and can coordinate a team. For each project we need a coordinater.

well since i have no ability to artistically assist the development(yet, and for some time), i could give coordinating a shot. i am on my computer quite a bit so id be able to keep up to date with information.

Q, I think Glenn Beck is already treated as an authority. Besides, we can always belittle his importance in the video after tearing his documentary apart.

He seems to be gaining alot of influence in America. We need to tell people the truth instead of letting him spread right-wing lies unchecked.

Agreed. It galls me to say this but I think we underestimate Glenn Beck at our peril. He is a moron, a liar, and a right wing demagogue, yes all true, but that kind of thing HAS found purchase amongst angry and disaffected workers in the past. If the Tea Party movement isn't confronted with more than just mockery (Well deserved though it may be) we may find it becoming actual American "freikorps" as the economy worsens.

I don't think so. We can all agree Capitalism is shit and that is the first thing people need to realize on the path to class consciousness. We should unite at least on the first few videos that present ideas we all can agree upon. THen when we start getting into different theories and ideologies we can split up.

I don't agree. We will all be involved in all projects, the script is to be made collectively, that means the script writer first post what he wants it to be here. then we all contribute in editing and adding stuff, facts, and so on. it will be just perfect and it will be very easy for people to keep on track with. This is also why we need to start early, the writer has to select a subject he wants to write about historical facts and so on to take up. When we got the writers base we can all contribute, and discuss, the documentary will be absolute bulletproof.

I've always thought of them being a new 'Freikorps' myself. It's pretty fucking scary, I really think we've gotta do something about it.
