I think that eventuality would be quite interesting because the model of socialism as envisaged by the 4th international would be possible. Or better yet what if both regimes collapsed in 1991? I think that would be quite scary because it would leave the islamic powers the world's main political force.
If the US had been the one to collapse, I think the Soviet Union would have dissolved anyway (without everything going to hell and Russia would have stayed a superpower) or became a corporatist or liberal capitalist state with a red flag. It certainly would have dropped any connotations of socialism whatsoever, like China has. I think it would have replaced the US as the leading imperialist power, possibly competing with a European/British/American Remnant bloc, and it would have had regional rivalries with China and maybe India.
cuba would have annexed florida. hugo chavez would be a right wing terrorist rebel fighting in the venezuelan jungles against the GREATER FARC.
