So... Articles

Now we seem to have most of the basics covered I was thinking we should establish the content of the paper.
    E.g
    -Two International Articles
    -One Local Issue
-One debate between people of two different tendencies/Views
-One page of more cultural items e.g Cartoon, Film reviews ect

    Any ideas ?
  2. RED ARMY FACTION
i think we should have it full of articles from lots of different contributers, so one could write about afghanistan another about cuba, different topics isues.
on another part we could have book and film reviews, but not on things with a completely unpolitical nature.
a political cartoon sketch which carries on weekly.
We need to give the person who sees it to want to see the one coming out in a fortnight.
Also we should bash capitalist parties to the hill, sow seeds of doubt that wont be planted by the BBC or Sky news
    Also an FAQ

    Q
    -One Local Issue
What is "local" though? UK? US? Germany? ...
-One debate between people of two different tendencies/Views
It has to be contemporary. Please no Soviet Union articles. Perhaps China?

I agree with RAF... it is a good to ensure diversity for the paper as well as ensure that the paper maitains intrest and a following

Whatever we have, we need to make sure it's writing ordinary people can understand (so no advanced abstract theoretical debate on the transdialectical ergonomics of bernsteinist posthumanism etc).
As for the specific contents I'm not sure yet, so keep suggesting
Maybe we should just write some pieces, and see what we've got to work with
  6. scarletghoul
    scarletghoul
I dont think 'local' would be a good idea, as it should be for everyone.
And yes as Q said no USSR stuff, it should all be relevent.
Except for maybe a historical article in each issue? that could be cool, provided it says what we can learn from the certain historical issue
  7. redmarxist90
    redmarxist90
yeah making sure that the writing can be understood by the average person is a large factor
  8. RED ARMY FACTION
Have a red hero profile in each one.
first edition could be on Che, second on bobby sands, third rosa luxemburg
    from marx to Vasily Zaytsev.
have facts about them, their role in popular culture, their accomplishments.
  9. redmarxist90
    redmarxist90
thats a good idea. I wouldnt mind covering somthing to do with marx
  10. scarletghoul

Cool idea, though it could prove troublesome if we want to make this for all varieties of leftists.
  11. RED ARMY FACTION
could be on people with differing political ideals
    marxists trots maos anarchists

What do you mean by "international" news. At least in America international simply means not in American. Members will be writing in many different countries.

This paper should be full of a lot of contemporary stuff. A good beginning article might focus on how the faults of capitalism caused the current depression and how it will cause the next. Basically exposing the flaws of capitalism and using contemporary examples to do so. Basically in another article or part of the first article would be an explanation of why the liberal and conservative solutions are invalid.

I also have to agree with scarletghoul by saying the the paper should be meant for the common person deal only scarcely with advance theory or philosophy. Few assumptions should be made about the readers knowledge or experience with leftism.

Pleas please please dont fill it with every little strike like the Socialist Worker
Big, important strikes, yeah, but not every single one

Regular updates on the People's Wars in India, Philippines etc

By local issue i meant each fortnight a different writer writes something that personally effects them but you're all right in saying we should avoid writing about every little strike.

If we focused this as a community project of Revleft, we could print some of the more interesting topics (or well, openingposts of topics) in it (in edited form obviously). We also have an Articles forum already, which gives some theoretical remarks.

Although articles about ideologies is good I feel it would be better to write about things the normal media is talking about, things that effect normal people but in a left-wing way with our perspective on things, highlighting the real causes.
A combination would always be good. I would like the paper to appeal to not just current lefties but to normal mainstream people as well.
    Let's make people think!

Agreed, this would be cool. Who wants to write this?

That's true. Maybe we could pick out extracts from a thread or two every week (not just the first post, but key bits from other posts too), to give the reader an insight into the leftist debates? And yeah, if we picked out certain nice articles from the articles section, asking permission from the author of course, that would be cool too. So yeah definately keep this project linked to RevLeft community; it's a rich source of material

    Agreed completely !

after seeing the katie story, i have bought a handgun and a bottle of scotch, so even in my suicide i will be contributing to capitalism, sad but true

A recession article would be good for the first issue. This is an important subject and for the sake of the papers future credibility this needs to be done very well. I would suggest that several members work together on it to ensure high standards.

I agree. This does need to be done well so it would probably be best as a collaborative piece.

There should be an article dedicated to science and technology.

Granma http://www.granma.cu and Juventud Rebelde http://www.juventudrebelde.cu/ are really good workers' papers. If you only read English, I think that there is a link to a translation at each site.

It could always follow a similar path to the revleft site itself with a general/misc articles, news, politics, theory, practicle matters, science & tech etc

    I'd be happy with that.

Is this project still going ahead now RAF has been banned to OI?

Looks like you got the land reform job mate.
  27. Spawn of Stalin
I don't see why RAF being restricted should be a problem, he can still contribute articles and such as long as he can correspond with the rest of us via the PM system. He's asked me to keep him updated so I assume he's fine with that.

We should decide if this is going to be totally independent or a part of RevLeft before we get down to anything, I'll start a topic.

We could perhaps do like a weekly/bi-weekly/monthly solidarity thing, where we mention a socialist/leftist/Marxist/anarchist/workers movement overseas or perhaps a 'victims of imperialism' thing and give updates on what's going down. So perhaps for the first one; Nepalese Maoists, Naxalites, The Shining Path etc. and for victims of imperialism we could do updates on Iraq, Palestine, Afghanistan etc. Just a thought perhaps.

You mean like a calander of up coming events/marches/protests/etc ?

    Sounds good.

Is anyone working on anything to be uploaded to the website yet?

Does anyone want to collaborate with me on any subject? (Nothing chosen yet.)
