Suggestions comrades ?
proletarian post
That sounds too similar to the Proletarian, which is the CPGB-ML's paper. New Revolutionary Press?
Proletarian Post works because it is in keeping with the working class nature of such papers, but is it too similar to CPGB-ML's paper, Proletarian? There is a definite trend amongst papers going for names like these, we have the Weekly Worker, the Socialist Worker, the New Worker, etc. Should we look for something fresh? Or do we stick with what we know works well? I'm going to try to think of a few potential names, I'll post them here tomorrow, I suggest you all do the same!
i like new revolutionary press comrade. how about the broad left press?
I like The Broad Left or we could call it 1848 (the year the Communist Manifesto was published).
I'm a big fan of the KISS principle: Keep It Simple, Stupid. Therefore I'd like The Communist as a name
I would go for the defiant option and name it after the 1980s commie scare movie: Red Dawn. But other than that, I like the Broad Left too. Or perhaps 'Broad Revolutionary Left' to make clear that reformists and liberals aren't part of it? Sounds less snappy, though.
edit: New Revolutionary Press actually sounds fine. My original idea was to name it "RevLeft" after this site.
New Revolutionary Press is a winner in my opinion.
"RevLeft" is actually a great name too, reflecting the paper being a community project of this site.
revleft press XD
So far we have Proletarian Post, New Revolutionary Press, Broad Left Press, The Broad Left, 1848, The Communist, Red Dawn, Broad Revolutionary Left, RevLeft, RevLeft Press. Any more suggestions? Personally I haven't been able to think of anything usable, I like New Revolutionary Press and The Communist.
I hate the word press but maybe that's just me.
I am in favour of a RevLeft Press or RevLeft type name. Maybe RevLeft Post or RevLeft Gazette.
RevLeft would be a cool title too, if we got official backing of the RL admins and the content was mostly from this forums/community. Also yeah press can become annoying, id like to suggest (the) New Revolutionary as a name. Also The Communist would be cool haha
I think we have to avoid any specific ideological term as it may not only put off average people but also other leftists who doesn specifically subscribe to that ideology.
I do like The Communist but you're quite right in saying that it might not appeal to everyone. In keeping with simple names, how about The Left? Or maybe just The Worker? Just to gauge opinion, of everything suggested, what is everyone's preference?
The worker is the best one i have heard yet
Reminds me of the Socialist Worker paper
It depends where we want to go with this really. If this is going to be a community project, I'd definitely support RevLeft as a (part of its) name. If not, we can go for something else.
I support RevLeft
I agree with farleft, the worker is similar to the socialist worker paper
Oh I had a good idea the other day; The Read Worker. You see, it has a double meaning because obviously read (pronounced red ) means that the worker is well read, aware and educated and knows the truth of things and is aware of the exploitation of his/her class. But it's also means he's a commie because it's pronounced 'red'. What do you think?
Would some pronounce it reading? "reed worker"? lol
That is a point it could be taken as the reed worker instead of the read worker
REV LEFT is nice
Shall we have a vote, Comrades? We've got more than enough ideas. I've been working on the website and I'd like to get a banner made and approved by you guys as soon as possible.
In order... 1) The RevLeft Paper 2) The RevLeft Press 3) The United RevLeft
Nice, I think we're pretty much set on RevLeft then. RevLeft Press, it has a ring to it, it's easy to remember and it is quite professional sounding too.RevLeft Online, just a thought, we could use RevLeft Online for the web edition, and if we ever get around to printing some we could simply call them RevLeft.RevLeft Paper, it's probably the name that would make the most sense, but it's a little obvious and paper just doesn't have the ring that press does. I do like it though, it's straight to the point and still quite snappy.
