I know we're all republicans and socialist but what leftist ideology do you most identify with(e.g Marxism-Leninism,anarchism,trotskyism)?

I'd probably most identify with marxism-leninism but certain aspects of trotskyism still appeal to me.

I consider myself a socialist and broad anti-imperialist. I am not, as many around here think, an anti-revisionist. It seems that on these boards my opinions line up more with the marxist-leninists, though.

Just slightly to the Left of Comrade Lenin, because I would criticise a few of his policies, while basically upholding his legacy at the same time. I also have a lot of interest in the ideas of Ernest Mandel, Che, James Connolly, Castro, Henri Lefebvre and Trotsky.

Aside from that, I am heavily influenced by the praxis of IRSP comrades such as Seamus Costello and Ta Power, who were in turn influenced to a degree by Maoism and the Vietnamese Revolution. Before the Irish National Liberation Army was strong enough to announce its existence, it actually used the covername Peoples Liberation Army.

Marxist-Leninist. I stand in solidarity with the Irish republican struggles, although I'm not Irish.

I was once vehemently opposed to the IRA and such, for silly hypocritical reasons. But well, after reading Labour in Irish History and opening my mind I support it all. As you can see I have a PIRA avatar, mainly because its a badass pic.

whoa, I remember when you were passionately anti-republican. well good to have you on our team now haha

and fair play for being open to changing your views on a very emotive subject.

Well, I was just scared to support them since it was weird as shit just having a real anti imperialist movement less than 6 hours away from me and I couldn't really accept it, since I know innocents have died by the IRA, but after being indoctrinated by anti IRA Irish and English propaganda I was foolishly led to believe it was all intentional fun.

Also, a lot of it is thanks to mosfeld, who after countless harassment and dissapointment I realized that it's hypocritical to support Hamas, the Taliban, etc but not support the IRA, who are in many aspects much fairer than said groups, forced me to open my mind and stop being such a stubborn child.

    THANKS OSKAR

I simply identify as Marxist, but I have a lot of time for the theoretical developments of Lenin, Trotsky, James Connolly, Gramsci, Jean Paul Sartre and Marxist-Feminism as a whole.

My nationality is British. As a child I grew up despising the Irish republican struggle because I grew up immersed in the anti-Irish propaganda of the British tabloids, the BBC, ITN, and the British government. Fortunately my perspectives changed as I became more interested in revolutionary socialism in my late teens and became a prolific reader of history and politics. The latter greatly influenced my perspectives and came to recognise the divisive role of British imperialism in Ireland, and the importance of the national-liberation struggle to not only Ireland but to the wider class struggle against capitalism-imperialism.
  19. Mephisto
I'm not Irish, but I'm very interested in irish history, politics, culture and the liberation struggle of course for a fair time, now.

I consider myself a revolutionary marxist, in the tradition of Lenin and Trotsky.

You'll probalby find me somewhere between Trier (birth place of Marx) and Luxemburg (country bearing the same name as that of Rosa). There you can find my opinion based on Marx, Engels, Bebel, Kautsky, Luxemburg, Liebknecht, Lenin, Trotsky, Bucharin, Gramsci and Connolly.

I'd say the main influences on my political thought is "Debsian" revolutionary socialism, and various Trotskyist traditions/thinkers (Cannon, Draper, Fraser, and Mandel.) Over the past year or so, I've come to the opinion that James Connolly is a very underrated socialist theoretician and activist, which has let me to a more explicitly Irish Republican position.

Seems like no one digs Uncle Joe in here. I mean I don't love the guy, but he was ok.

I've been becoming more and more republican over time now, seeing myself saying the Marx Engels Lenin Connolly line a lot more than the first one I said.

I guess partially because unlike Lenin, Stalin had no real love for republicans. Even turned down their request for arms, which led the IRA under Russell to seek help from Abwehr, the German military intelligence.

Is there much literature I should be reading to get an idea of what Stalin brought to socialism? I've never found that he had much impact on my political views.

As any generic Marxist-Leninist like myself will tell you, "Another View of Stalin" is a good place to start. You can find it online.
