Is one of my favorite sub-genres of punk. What do you guys think of it?
Meh.
Its ok. I kinda get sick of it, but I really dig that riotfolk stuff.
I like Against Me! (less folky now), Johnny Hobo and Mischief Brew.
This Bike is a Pipe Bomb
Against Me! are fucking shite.
Boikot (spanish band with Balkan influences), Kultur Shock (gipsy punk) Flogging Molly (celtic punk), Brkovi (if you understand any of Balkan languages, i highly recommend them).
Andrew Jackson Jihad anybody?
the older i get, the more i prefer folk punk over more and more genres.
Johnny Hobo and the Freight Trains!
I booked Mischief Brew to play my friends' basement one time, and it was lovely. I've been in a few folk-punk bands, so I can't talk too much shit I guess. My experience in folk punk scenes has been overwhelmingly negative though - terrible drinking culture (like, rivaling any "drunk punx" I've ever met), fairweather politics, overwhelmingly white and male dominated, etc. I know this is true of many punk scenes, but I think many folk punk scenes are unusually bad. https://archive.org/details/DespiteA...rthFightingFor What was I even thinking in 2010?
the older i get, the more i prefer folk punk over more and more genres. I'm the same (and I'm getting quite far along in the process, unfortunately).
I saw Blackbird Raum a few weeks ago. Loved it. The atmosphere at folk punk shows is so great, high sense of comradeship.
johnny hobo / ramshackle glory
