I found this on wiki
Technogaianism is a bright green environmentalist stance of active support for the research, development and use of emerging and future technologies to help restore Earth's environment. Technogaians argue that developing safe, clean, alternative technology should be an important goal of environmentalists.
Well improving technology to make it more 'green' is definatley something we should all be pushing for, but its only one part of the whole movement. I think sometimes people rely on technology too much to 'get us out of this mess', for example there is The Venus Project. It needs to made clear that we can't solely rely on technology and need to make a whole series of changes in almost every aspect of society to make it not just more 'green', but to make it a much fairer and equal society.

My main problem with "bright greens" is that an awful lot of them tend to be at best liberal capitalists, and often worse - right libertarians etc.
That said, as long as we are talking purely technological issues that is not so much of a problem - all such ideas are useful or debatable, regardless of source. However, as someone has already said, capitalism is incompatible with ecosystemic integrity as it is insatiable and does not recognise the finite until it is exhausted, using even the process of resource exhaustion as a prime opportunity for profit.
This is why we needed to have Ecosocialism, as opposed to just an environmentally aware socialism or a socialist green movement. One of the first problem ecosocialists seek to overcome is "environmentalism" - when that is treating the ecological aspect of capitalism as a single issue rather than a systemic challenge that cannot be divorced or treated separately from the whole. By failing to recognise that the problem is capitalist relations, environmental reformists stumble into selling their ideas as "profit making" and "realistic", without understanding that they are merely strengthening Capital in crisis and helping it to overcome barriers, become more extensive and powerful and continue its' reign of destruction.
Sorry for coming on in my first post and suggesting a potential name change for the group!

Hi, I just joined this group. Greenman, what are your opinions on Technocracy? It seems like what you are advocating for is an equal society that is also environmentally sustainable, which is pretty close to the goal of Technocracy. The goal of Technocracy is to provide the highest possible standard of living to each person, that can be sustained indefinitely given the availability of resources and environmental constraints.
