Hi, comrade. To answer your question, no, we're not nationalists at all. Irish Republicanism is not synonymous with ethnic nationalism, no matter how many times trendy lefties claim it is. Republicanism has always been about uniting all Irish people regardless of their religion into one unified, democratic state. Thus it's really not about establishing a nation-state. It's an anti-imperialist movement, there's an important and subtle difference.
Now the IRSP uphold Marx, Engels, Lenin and Irish heroes like Wolfetone, Mellows, Connolly, etc. Because of our origins in the Troubles, we have many who are not very politically educated, and yet we also have many members who are well-read communists. It's a real mix of people. I know many protestants in our Movement as well as Catholics.
I say 'left republican', because the IRSP while upholding Marx, Engels and Lenin is not an orthodox communist party, either. And I use Left Republican interchangably with the phrase Republican Socialist.
Hope that answers your questiosn, if not let me know, comrade!
    Saoirse Go Deo!

hey thanks for the answers on the IRA/IRSP thread . Where exactly on the left movement do you consider yourself? Is the greater part of the Left republican movement 'marxists' or just 'left wing nationalists'?I for one always thought that much of the movement were a marxist force but recently met somebody who denies it.
