Conversation Between brigadista and Palingenisis

  1. I dont think that Cuba was ever Socialist (but thats a long story as to why) but I do think it was/is a progressive Social Democracy. However I dont trust Raoul at all. With the general left-turn in Latin America though things could get better.

yeah its true but sex tourism is starting in Cuba very depressing and they are developing tourist hotels in Havana .the friend i went with was there n the special period it was their 5th trip over a 20 year period. We saw prostitution in Havana which did not exist on the street before . the countryside and the towns were VERY different the people were different also . It is worth a trip but i must say that the embargo has really changed Cuba .Lots of evidence of Miami influence in Havana but not in santiago
  3. Okay just someone made a stupid comment here that you cant get toothpaste in Cuba which seemed mad weird to me. I remember that in Moldavia there was one price for tourists/vistors and on price for locals. I guess its fair enough. Im not sure if I like the way they are encouraging tourism in Cuba. Ive travelled around eastern Europe and tourism can be something pretty ugly in poorer countries.

well Cubans can if they have tourist money but i did see toothpaste in the Cuban shops- they use EVERYTHING - I stayed with a family and they didn't waste a thing- the tourist currency is so that tourists cant come and get things cheap- so you do pay the equivalent of what you would pay at home- unlike say if you went to jamaica where you would just have the JA dollar and could buy a lot of things for a lot less money than at home
  5. brigadista
well you know there are 2 currencies and cubans cant buy what you and i can buy
  6. Comrade you have been to Cuba I read in one of your posts, is it true that if you are going there you have to bring toothpaste or is that just a lie?

    Thanks.
