The IMT have a crude conception of "mass party." The "Leninist party" is a distorted Comintern interpretation of the shared definition of vanguard party by Kautsky the Marxist and Lenin pre-Comintern. It is party-movement, and it is mass, too. Simply put, the class-for-itself is the vanguard of the class-in-itself. How does the class-for-itself emerge? Right from Marx himself in his IWMA years: the political party-movement.
