It's worse and more opportunistic when they know the Marxist position and yet distort it because it feels more convenient to do that than to tell the truth.
it's always fun to hear self professed "Marxists" (opportunists) reject actual marxist theory because it's inconvenient for them, because they've never actual read about it before
