Good man pa, just as it was formented it can be removed. Theres actually a Taxi Driver there in Galway who was a former INLA OC and Stalinist from Sligo who was a Priest while in the INLA . But he hasnt anything to do with the movement any more from what I know of, he was actually named as one of the suspects behind Aire Neave unfortunate demise. We will have to meet up for a pint pa next time im down in your fair city.

Thats initially what occured in Cork as well with the taxi drivers. But right now we have a solid mix of Irish and Immigrants operating in our union. The larest taxi union in cork is the Cork Taxi Drivers federation is run by a know racist, nicknamed "elvis" who is a complete sell-out and colludes with base operators, we published this and we've taken some 150 members from his union (mostly Irish) and so we educate our members on this divisive issue. Seems to me like we're going to have to send Noel Murphy up there to drill people on this. All I can say, is that here in Cork when you get into a cab you constantly hear "those blacks have taken all the work" but in our cabs there is nothing of the sort. We'll win over galway. Just you wait. The reactionary and racist elements of the Taxi trade unions in Galway will show their face and we'll swoop at it.
Aye im trying to talk them into it. Its just we have very good relations with Brian Scanlon the former councillor here who is high up with SIPTU in Sligo, so they are kind of in limbo between the two. Aye thats brilliant, sure we leaflet and do alot of work with Bree up here even though hes not an irp, just its progressive and would have no problem helping out SP or anyone progressive for that matter. Forums like this are divisive among the left but in reality its a different story.
Just to give you the heads up here, the Taxi driver distuation in Galway is completely fucked. Theres a massive amount of West African Taxi Drivers there and so there is a strong reactionary current among a sizeable amount of the local Taxis. Alot of blatant and disgusting racism among a large amount of Taxi drivers there with alot of them going to the exstent of painting Irish flags on the Taxis and on numerous occasions when getting out of the Taxis they would say, "remember to get Irish Taxis" etc. So its a hot potato of reactionaryism, racism all stemming from inadequacies in the Taxi licensing in Galway with the market beeing flooded with excess drivers and the locals blaming the West Africans.
Well we fill a large vacume of the left like. There's lots of Socialist Party members, Irp's, SWP's and many of the leaders are old members of the Communist party. We don't align ourselves with any one party but sometimes we do advoctate support of a candidate who shares our opinions and views. Like in Cork we more or less endorsed mick barry of the SP's but he's also head of our home helps section so it was a no-brainer. But, yeah. The Irp's have been good to our cause so tell your friends to join! In other news outside our two major area's (cork and ulster) we're growing in Dublin and in particular galway where the Taxi drivers section is booming. Good to have you on board!
Well as good as Pa. I was in contact with Owen Curren in Donegal who has sent me the membership forms and all. Just have to meet him soon now. I didnt realise that so many irps were in the IWU until I actually started to set about joining it.
