Conversation Between Vladimir Innit Lenin and Le Socialiste

  1. Doesn't really bother me. I've come to realise that America will be America, no matter which Capitalist is in charge.

    What you been reading?
  2. Le Socialiste
I've been good! Enjoying the summer...been reading a lot lately. How've you been?

I can't believe some of the comments in that 2012 election thread. Looks like we all have our hands full with that one. Fucking ridiculous...
  3. Alright bro. Long time no speak, how's it going? See you've got your hands full with raging liberal Democrats by teh looks of that US Presidents thread in Politics!
  4. Le Socialiste
Hey, I meant to follow up earlier but forgot - did you ever have a chance to visit the Occupy site in London? If you did go, how was it?
  5. Meh, it seems to me (from what i've read and heard!) that it's just a bit of a hotch potch movement at teh moment. They seem to have been more caught up in the St. Pauls Church media stuff than actually getting their point across to the wider public.

I dunno, we'll see how it goes. Tis why i'm so interested to see it in the flesh tbh and get talking to the people there.

I'll admit, I wasn't enthusiastic about OWS at first (and to a degree I'm still skeptical of its ability to grow beyond its current shortcomings), but events in the Bay Area have been ecouraging. The use of general strikes in Oakland and Dallas (which is upcoming) should lend the occupations there some much needed working-class connections. I haven't really been following the Occupy movement in the UK - how's that been going?
  7. Yeah saw the reports and stuff on that, quite exciting though it's pretty small scale at the moment.

What would be great is if the students and workers could join up and then radicalise the Occupy movement, since that'd obviously swell our numbers, provide cross-sector strength and (due to students and Occupy) get the issue of working class rebellion into the media.

I've been away for a couple of months at uni, and yeah before then I was pretty cynical about the whole Occupy thing. Still am, but i'm quite excited that it's spread so much. Whether it will spread politically in the way we want is another matter, mind.

Have you been away long? I've been more interested in the recent electrician and student demos than Occupy to be honest. Have you seen the video of workers pushing through police lines to reach the students? It was pretty inspiring stuff.
  9. I'm actually really excited to be heading back to London in a couple of weeks, will be my first chance to visit Occupy London and see what's actually going down there, it's diffcult to actually understand what's really going on in all these Occupy events from media reports, left and right!

    No worries.

You're kind of caught in an odd place, being a left com/lib. socialist. On the other hand, it provides a diversity of ideas and theories that could be beneficial in the long run. The important thing is to strive for this diversity when it comes to the movement itself. As you said, it sometimes seems as though the only people represented are the M-Ls and anarchists, leaving those on neither side caught in the middle. It's frustrating, to say the least.
