Conversation Between bcbm and The Essence Of Flame Is The Essence Of Change

well agamben is certainly critical of capital and most of the modern state of things, so maybe that wasn't the right label. he certainly hasn't been adopted by the ruling class; the coming insurrection and a lot of the tiqqun texts draw from his ideas, and he's good friends with the alleged authors (who face terrorism charges).

Really, how do you expect a philosophy that has been adopted and is used by the ruling class to be of any help to class struggle? If it had any revolutionary potential or posed some danger for them they wouldn't advertise it that much, would they? They would try and hinder it as they do with anti-capitalistic messages and morals.
For me, humanism played a big role in the progress of human society during the Enlightenment, during which also capitalism arose but today has nothing more to offer.
Anyway, I was recommended The Foucault Reader, a book that explains Foucault's basic ideas since he is considered the father of post modernism by much, which I'll hopefully get and read during the holidays.Who is this Agamben you speak of? (PS sorry for bombarding your visitor messages page with my weird opinions, I get carried away some times )

Nah post humanism is just referring to newer additions in humanist theory as far as I know.I really think I stand opposed to humanism.I believe that if you take it's line of thought and introduce it politically you can only end up in systems formed around technocracy, which I find dehumanizing.

Plus the fact that humanism is supposed to be a leading philosophical ideology in the present system ,from UNO and NATO claiming to defend human rights to it being taught at schools as the only correct moral code a person can have (with the exception of some American schools which stand to the same mindset that made them refuse theory of evolution ), while you rarely hear criticisms against the inherently oppressive nature of capitalism or hierarchy from humanists, with those few who do being cleverly left out proves exactly how irrelevant humanism is to the things it seemingly supports.

haha that's pretty funny. for a sort of, i don't know exactly what to call it, post-humanist perspective, you might want to check out agamben.
  5. The Essence Of Flame Is The Essence Of Change
Aww shame, anyway thanksI guess I'll search the net a bit about it...Basically we were discussing with a KKE member about humanism, when I told him I am not sure about it and that I believe it's just a collection of dogmatic opinions, used as a term by almost anyone who wants to add a social / ethical tone to their arguements and that as a philosophy leads to conclusions detrimental to the human individual in a most dehumanizing manner and that practically serves only as a glorification of the western civilsation, being a nicer word for imperialism. After that he got mad and told me ''get lost post modernist shithead'' and started rambling about petit bourgeioise truths.I was delighted to have found a word a Stalinist could spit out with more hatred than revisionist and so here I am asking around

20 different responses sounds about right for postmodernism. unfortunately i'm not going to be of that much help to you... i'm only vaguely knowledgeable with postmodernism and pretty much not at all with the post-structuralists. i'd advise just reading wikipedia and finding some "beginner's" books on the subject, and go from there. spark notes of some major texts might help? sorry to not be of more help, and good luck with your reading. :-)

Hey mate, I'm interested in post modernism/post structuralism and you seem to know about this stuff.Basically I haven't understood yet exactly what those two currents entail since I've asked around 20 people and I have gained 20 responses :P Any good introductory books or pamphlets to read?
