Conversation Between Red Future and maskerade

The Mozambican liberation struggle was truly inspirational - and Samora Machel is an amazing individual. He learned all the languages in Mozambique, set up parallel governments to the portuguese colonial rule which included co-operative farming which essentially functioned as socialist communes. But of course right after his death - almost everyone in Mozambique believes it was an orchestrated assassination led by Chissano and Geubuza in order to end the civil war and change the economic set up - FRELIMO turned neoliberal and into a pawn of the World Bank. There is a great article about the party conference they had after his death that I'll try and find for you, essentially it was the death of Mozambican socialism

Im always glad to hear about someone who has a knowledge of Mozambique and interest in it's liberation struggle.Yeah FRELIMO has been trying to revise its history and it's Marxist past recently...I can't think what Samora would have thought of his once revolutionary party now.

I love the fact that you mentioned Samora Machel as an obscure leftist, I've lived in Mozambique and he is still revered as a hero to the people. But FRELIMO today are unfortunately ruled by a right-wing faction and have been since Samora's death.
