Britain is officially in a recession for the first time since the early 90s, according to the latest figures. How are you managing to stay solvent?

Better than most (i suppose) but bad non the less. Where i work, you can tell that they are gleeming with anticipation, ahead of even more exploitation. I believe that it will be three strikes and your out on performance. If we do not reach the daily targets three times in a row, i'm beggining to think that it will be it as there will soon be lots of labour around to take over from us.
Interestly enough, they are in the process of making regulations that will blatantly make it harder to do our jobs and hit the targets. So in escense, they are running the place according to the recession. Not interested in their workers one bit.

Not in the UK but I'm gainfully unemployed (on the dole) thanks to the crash.

Not at the moment, as I'm a high-school senior.
When it comes time to pay tuition for university, however, maybe.

I'm a junior in high school. When it comes time to apply to colleges, I will definitely feel it more then. Paying for college will be difficult with the economy continually on a downward spiral.

I'm in the US, but the recession has actually helped me. The lower gas prices over the past few months have me the most financially well off I've ever been oddly enough. A few months ago when gas was $4 a gallon I was barely scraping by. I was usually left with pocket change, maybe 5 bucks, the last couple days before payday.

Getting into a good 6th form collage is tougher due to competitions from public schools boys who can no longer afford the fees. Their grades are also fucking brilliant due to them going to good schools.

I'm unemployed. Is that affecting plenty?

Yes directly, I work for a subcontractor and lots of companies have been cutting down or even cancelling the work they give to the company I work for. I have lost a lot of work, and I am earning half what I was earning a few months ago.

'Good schools' does not compute.
Anyways, it's started to get worse here, but it hasn't affected me yet.

Ive decided not to go to college, due to the insane amount of money required.

I headed off to Community College for that same reason. After this year I won't even be able to afford that. Next week, I'm losing my insurance on my car. There just aren't any jobs around here.

My father just got laid off today, but I think we will be able to manage for several months.

But yes, its definitely affected us.

Also I have to start paying for uni next year, but I think I will be okay in that regard. At least for awhile

Yeah, I was considering that as well. I have the grades to get into very good colleges, but not good enough grades to get massive scholarships. If it gets bad enough, I may be forced to go to Columbus State, since I want to stay around my area in Ohio and Ohio State is difficult to get into. All the other colleges in my area are over $20,000 without room and board. It's outrageous.

Well, not directly as I am a senior in High School and I'm unemployed but I do look into getting a job which I figure will be difficult. And I guess I'll be affected trying to make it into college and what not. My mother's unemployed, we need to move into a cheaper apartment because we can no longer afford the rent as it continues to be raised by our landlord who may be losing money fast, maybe even losing a job, we can't tell and don't bother to ask. I dread getting out of school and being pushed into a world in such strife, especially when I see the crash affecting people around me.

The recession seems to be pretty much non-existent in both countries I have lived in since the start of these problems.. Australia and the Philippines, and I am a pretty poor motherfucker. Yet things are no harder for me than they were say, a year and a half ago. It is still difficult for me to pay basic expenses.

However, a lot of my girlfriend's family in Japan have been feeling the crunch greatly, particularly in terms of their inability to get proper working hours.

That reminds me, can someone fill me in on this; what other countries are in this kind of shit, besides the US and UK? Are there any?

i got hired at my social workplace and will be signing a contract sometime this week so financially i will be in better shape then ever before.

Oh there's plenty. Iceland in particular. We had a guy from Romania on the IRC last night that said the situation there was bad too. It's safe to say that nearly everyone in the world is feeling the effects of this.

That reminds me, can someone fill me in on this; what other countries are in this kind of shit, besides the US and UK? Are there any?Ireland is suffering worse than most. Our housing market has collapsed completely (house prices have dropped 30-50%, depending on area, in the past two years) and is dragging retail/services down the drain with it. Given that we have virtually no manufacturing base remaining (and that's geared towards a shrinking export market) very, very hard times are ahead

I think you really over-exgerate how hard it is to get into a good college. If you go to an actual sixth form college, as opposed to the sixth form of a school, its easy to get in, especially with the grades you told me you'd get. You're really worrying about nothing mate.
