I just read this today, although it came out on the 15th: http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/localnews/2008630232_martialarts15m.html

A warrant for Monson's arrest was filed Wednesday in Thurston County Superior Court. Monson, 37, is charged with first-degree malicious mischief, a felony carrying a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison and a $20,000 fine.
The graffiti cost $19,000 to clean up, court papers state.
Wow! $19k to clean up his vandalism? What the hell did he do? That bastard must have busted windows up!

Police have sought the people responsible for spray-painting graffiti on columns on the north side of the Capitol on Nov. 26. The graffiti included anarchy symbols, a peace symbol and phrases such as "no war" and "no poverty."
What the fuck?! THAT cost $19k to clean? And deserves a 10 year sentence?

This system is fucked.

Whoa.... what bullshit. 10 years for spray painting a wall that is crazy. We will see if they want to make an example to people who would do that in the future. I really dig Jeff it would suck if this went through.

I think it would've happened eventually, his jailing, I mean. He doesn't pay any taxes.

Nevertheless, I believe this is more than just a charge for petty vandalism. The ruling class, as we all know, does not tolerate dissent, especially that which seeks to expose them for the tyrants that they are. This charge is meant to make an example of Monson, to warn other would-be activists that this shit does not fly. They are basically saying "don't you dare fuck with us".

What a cool guy. It's neat hearing about famous people turning out to be leftists. I hope this gets tons of publicity. Maybe it'll get at least a few UFC fans to read up on anarchism.

Very true.

I think some sort of rally-type action is warranted... although I have no idea how to organize and make such an action have any effect.

Spraypainting circle A's doesn't mean that he has any fundamental understanding of Anarchy.

He's quite active and several people on this site have met him. Interviews he's given clearly show he knows what he is talking about.

It's quite clever what he did, he just painted some grafiti, but because he's well-known he gets a lot of attention for it. the fact that he risks 10 years of jail time even adds to the news value.
If he gets convicted for this, it would be more of a conviction against anarchism, and the state would have to truly show that they don't allow dissent.

not that i excpect that he will have to do realy serious jailtime for this (wich will obvious be a shame and a discrace and realy fucked up) but just imagining the look on the faces of the aryan brotherhood when he enters the prison yard made me grin

WTF? In the UK, you probably wouldnt even get 10 years for murder. He must have done some Serious grafiti to get a ridiculus sentance like that one. I dont know, mabey something like..blowing up a shopping mall or library:rolleyes:.

This is a pretty fucked up sentence, although it is blatantly obvious they are just trying to make an example of him as a threat to others in the future.

I didn't edit your post, I'm assuming what I quoted was the original and then you changed it. I'm not getting into an argument over this, cheers ;)

Heh sorry, didn't mean for my post to sound all haughty, but looking back it kind of reads that way. Now I'm the one apologizing. :)

I didnt gather the value of his stunt until after I thought about it nor did I know he organized and was active. I just saw circle A's and all i could think was hot topic kids or something. I jumped the gun but I'll stop chitter chatter to not draw away from the thread.

Ugh, I knew my brother was reactionary, but I didn't know it was to this extent. He fully supports these charges made against Monson, and wants him made an example of, because he defaced a "symbol that defines our nation". And it defines it, alright. It's a symbol of tyranny and capitalist exploitation.
