In b4 the Morrissey hate etc....
The Smiths are my favourite band of all time, actually. It's just the combination of Morrissey's lyrics and how the band gel: needless to say that Johnny Marr is an incredible guitarist.
Best album? Meat is Murder. The original, not the re-issue with 'How Soon Is Now?' because it cuts up the flow of the album.

LOVE The Smiths.
Sam_b, are you going to see Morrissey when he comes down? I'm thinking of it, although tickets are quite dear...

I've stood in the very location where this was filmed, it's ordsall in manchester.
The red brick building they cycled past was the salford lad's club.
It's all closed down now, sadly. :crying:

One of the greatest bands of all time, respect. Without the smiths or mozza a lot of good bands since wouldn't have existed.

Morrissey - You're the one for me fatty
And yes The Smiths are an excellent and pioneering band.

I know a bunch of people who love the smiths but hate "girfriend in a coma". I have no Idea why but I still find it awesome.

girlfriend in a coma sucks, along with 'some girls are bigger than others'
needless to say I love the smiths,
I would never meet Morrisey given the chance, the man is intolerabe. A genius, and an arse in equal measures

Wrong on both counts.
Incidentally Some Girls Are Bigger Than Others has some of the best lyrics Morrissey ever penned. Though many fans dislike them but I would guess that is because they can't spot irony.
'From the ice age to the dole age,
there is but one concern,
I have just discovered,
some girls are bigger than others'
...
'As Antony said to cleopatra,
as he opened a crate of ale,
"oh I say,
some girls are bigger than others"'
Makes me chuckle every time I here it.

^ i like those particualr lyrics myself, but on the whole the song isn't anywhere near as good as other stuff he has done.

Vicar in a tutu is the funniest song.
'As Rose collects the money in the canister,
Who comes a-sliding down the bannister'
Now is someone gonna have done and sticky this thread? It's just that this was the most fantastically successful appreciation thread, and as the Smiths are so adored, it should be preserved.

Or we could just ensure it never dies by preserving it outselves?

Besides, the most important threads get stickied.

Bump. Now will you consider stickying. Orwell has a sticky in L&F!

Oh hey, did someone say 'Smiths' and 'appreciation' in the same title?
Big fan of the Smiths and Morrissey's solo work: 'Rubber Ring', 'You Just Haven't Earned It Yet Baby', 'A Rush and A Push...' and 'Miserable Lie' are amongst my favourite songs, not forgetting 'There Is A Light That Never Goes Out'.
The Smiths' music really helped me get through some dark years at high school, and I've been listening to 'em ever since.

The Smiths are good, but not that good.
They don't even come close to artists like Bob Dylan, and since they don't have stickies, The Smiths won't have one either.

Although I dont like The Smiths, that's very subjective.
Led Zeppelin
14th February 2009, 14:19
You would have had a good point if I had actually stickied a thread about any artist based on that "subjective" view of mine.
But I haven't, and I won't.

give dylan a sticky then, so we can get back to the debate on the sticky-worthiness of the Smiths.

But this raises a more fundermental question, why does Bobby D. not have a stickied thread dedicated to his brilliance?

But I'll have to slap down Smiths fans as well 'cause I don't believe they deserve to be next to Dylan, so it's best if we let it be as it is. :p
Besides, I'll be forced to add such artists as Led Zeppelin!

Give the Smiths one!

Orwell shouldn't be stickied...
A thread that is relevent enough will generate enough activity and stick around anyway, without needing to be stickied.
