I'm sorry, but I'm feeling quite passionate about cats at the moment. Let's share our love of cats in this thread.
They are truly just wonderful things.

Leon! I've always wanted to call a cat Leon!
Me and my sister a while ago compiled this list of good cat names, including Leon - I said for ages I'd want two cats, a boy and a girl and I'd call them Leon and Sybil. :D
But er.. anyway..

I had a cat once but it ran away :(http://www.revleft.com/vb/../revleft/smilies/sad.gifI wrote this in a blog on revleft recently:

My former flatmate had a cat, which I of course had to look after for her all the time. It always wanted to go out, and if refused it'd urinate on mats (indeed it ruined a few). My friend, the cat's owner, would tell me to let it out, 'he'll come back by himself, he's an outdoors cat, blablabla'. Finally I did, this was in the winter so I was a bit hesitant, but after mat #5 or so I finally listened to her.

The animal naturally never did come back. I had to first go looking for it throughout the suburb, yelling into bushes for days, and finally go get it from some old lady who had taken it in and looked at me like I was
a murderer.

Pets and the city are a bad match.

I don't like cats at all, but I just got this hilarious email forward--probably the only worthwhile email forward I've ever received actually:

Jennifer and Jim kept getting huge water bills. They knew beyond a doubt that the bills weren't representative of their actual usage, and no matter how they tried to conserve, the high bills continued. Although they could see nothing wrong, they had everything checked for leaks or problems: the water meter, outdoor pipes, indoor pipes, underground pipes, faucets, toilets, washer, ice maker, etc., all to no prevail.

One day Jim was sick and stayed home in bed, but kept hearing water running downstairs. He finally got out of his sick bed to investigate, and stumbled onto the cause of the bills. Apparently this was happening all day long when they were not at home.

Knowing that few would believe him, he taped a segment of the 'problem' for posterity. Please see link below.

Bad news, everyone. :(
Muff is leaving the family.
My parents didn't want to take her with us when we move, as it would be very expensive, but were willing to reconsider as my sister and I loved her so.

Unfortunately, however, she has for some reason began to shit inside. She's 11 years old and is(was) toilet trained but suddenly she's decided she doesn't like doing her business on the grass.
Last week we had new carpets put in (sprucing up house before departure) and we've been careful about keeping her out of the rooms, but today we forgot and Muff went into one of them and left a little heap in the corner for Mum to find when she got home from work.
Luckily nothing stuck to the carpet so it came right off, but she was livid and is now refusing to let her in the house, and is going to send her to the pound this weekend. :crying: But also, another option is having her put down. Because she's so old nobody is going to want to adopt her and it may be less cruel to put her to sleep instead of letting her live the rest of her life in a cage to be put to sleep after a while of nobody taking her home.
She's always been a dog person, Mum.

I just had to express this and this thread felt like a suitable place.

I know this is probably too late, but damn, some people can be idiots. They think that if a cat's behaviour changes, they need to get rid of it or kill it off??? Cats don't suddenly start shitting all over the place (or change their behaviour otherwise) unless there's something going on. If a cat does such a thing, see a vet. If he tells you to kill the cat, get another vet who isn't an asshole/idiot.

Sorry, it won't make it any better. But some people can be so stupid at this sort of thing. I once read that in the US, it's allowed to declaw cats (which is actually a surgery similar to chopping off your fingertips). Unbelievable.

I absolutely love cats. I recently rented an apartment and I cant keep any - though Id love to. I grew up with lots of cats around and you appreciate the indivuality of them. For example if you have a dog and go on holidays the animal is entirely reliant on outside support. The cat however isn't and will rely on its own means. Long live the cat!
