You should've told them that you could easily disprove that "history" of the Vietnam war and see if they would take you up on the challenge.

This kind of writing "history" reminds me of history books in German schools, which tell the students that in 1918 Friedrich Ebert and the SPD more or less heroically defended parliamentarism and democracy against the evil commies who wanted to create a "council dictatorship modeled after soviet Russia against the will of the people".
But well, at least today they admit that Rosa Luxemburg and Karl Liebknecht were murdered rather than "executed under martial law" as they claimed earlier and that the reactionaries (Noske+the Freikorps) defended democracy in a rather brutal way.

did the text say the Australians were the most hardcore fighters during the way? Communist forces were scared of the Australians and would preferably attack US positions instead.
did the text also mention how the South Vietnam government was a chatholic minorty that suppressed the buddhists and indigenous people? or how they were corrupt to the point where many US officials wanted out of Vietnam as early as 1968 becuase they saw no point in fighting for the South?

This is just a more extreme example of the subjectivity of museums. Aside from how prominent it is in being biased, it's nothing new.

Any examples, comrade?

Well, here's one example, though there are many many others that I can give. We were in the War Museum section of the "eternal chief"s mausoleum in Ankara with some foreign comrades, and there were paintings and all describing the horrors allegedly done by the non-Muslims residents of Turkey and all, and we heard the tour guide describing the painting to foreign tourists, saying something like: "Look! Look! See how that greek orthodox priest is killing the turkish muslim baby and the rest of the population".
Living under a state capable of denying the Armenian genocide, for instance, results in seeing lots of things like this.

Yes thats true but I dont like that kind of talk.
There has been a lot of glorifying the Australian soldiers in Vietnam recently. And it has really sunk down to working class level.
Its scary how Jingoism raises its head. Everyone knows Australians have always been great fighters in wars, the only problem is that we have always been fighting wars that are barely even in the interests of AUSTRALIAN capitalists.
Trying to justify Vietnam used to be something that vets and right wing racists did, now I have heard young vietnamese kids from refugee families talking about how it was "right" for Australian soldiers to go there.
I dont have to agree with all the methods or ideology of "Uncle Ho" to agree with the Viet Cong designation of Australian troops as "mercenaries".

It did not turn the tie of the war? So what's the point? Those refugees were landlords.

Well, nobody's forcing you too! :p
