I saw an interesting film recently (well, the better part of a film), which is apparently rather famous, entilted Doctor Zhivago. The backdrop of this love story is the Russian Revolution. It was made in the west at the height of the cold war, and thus contains an anti-bolshevik, anti-communist slant, yet for the most part, it seemed to be much more fair and insightful than I would have expected from the western media in 1965. Thoughts?

(here's the imdb for it: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0059113/)

I'm assuming the book is better then... since that is often the case. Any thoughts?

Wasn't Pasternak pro-Bolshevism?

And despite his acclaim, Russian readers say that his prose is dreadful.
