New members that proslytise, yes.
I am apalled and disgusted. You should be "apalled and disgusted" at blatant attempts by people to propagate mind-viruses.

That's what Arabic sounds like to you? Sounds pretty chauvinist to me.
Just don't expect to hold on to your sanity.
Every single religious person is insane to you? That sounds pretty counter-productive.
Bourgeois atheism at its finest - when opposition to religion takes precedence over solidarity against capitalism and imperialism.
You should be "apalled and disgusted" at blatant attempts by people to propagate mind-viruses.
Saying that people should learn about Muhammad - a historical figure - is not the same thing as encouraging conversion.
How do you know "she" is even a leftist?
How do you know she isn't? More importantly, how do you know she would be incapable of perceiving the value of our ideology given some exposure to it?
You don't, but you're acting as if you do.

Spare me. Speaking in a foreign language - hell, any language - does not make inanities more profound
I could have said "I'm a little teapot, short and stout... ", and it still would have had just as much relevance as what they said.
Every single religious person is insane to you? That sounds pretty counter-productive.I was actually making an allusion to the themes of insanity via revelation that feature strongly in works of cosmic horror, due to the nature of knowing the truth concerning the universe and it's denizens.
But the comparison to religious belief is amusingly apt, I'll give you that.
Bourgeois atheism at its finest - when opposition to religion takes precedence over solidarity against capitalism and imperialism.Oh, give over. The vast majority of Muslims don't spend their time being internet missionaries I'm sure, so making fun of such preacher wannabes in particular is in no way incompatible with solidarity with Muslims in general.
Saying that people should learn about Muhammad - a historical figure - is not the same thing as encouraging conversion. So someone comes, completely out of the blue, and offers to discuss some religious personality from history in an irrelevant forum, and that doesn't make you the least bit suspicious?
I can't help but think you'd be reacting differently had someone signed up as "Christian Girl" and as their very first post started a thread called "Let's learn about Jesus Christ -our Lord and Saviour- and Christianity".
How do you know she isn't? More importantly, how do you know she would be incapable of perceiving the value of our ideology given some exposure to it?Because someone who signs up with a name emphasising their religion to a website clearly marked "Revolutionary Left" and immediately starts talking Mohammed this and Islam the other, doesn't strike me as the sort to stick around and learn anything.
You don't, but you're acting as if you do.All they have to do is prove me wrong, and that's me with egg on my face. I'm not harassing them, interfering with their ability to post, or calling for them to be banned. I'm not even calling for them to be restricted.
I'm merely being irreverently skeptical.

Actually, what she said was a traditional greeting, and hoping that everyone here would have peace bestowed upon them. It's traditional in the arabic culture to say certain sayings at certain times, and wishing peace upon people comes up quite a lot. That's just how the culture is, and it's actually a great sign of respect. Even arabs who don't speak arabic know these little sayings, which goes to show how widely used they are. The fact that she said these things means that she's respectful of the people she's speaking to, whereas "I'm a little teapot" does not.
"She" might not be, but how can I tell?
Why don't you just take it for granted that it's a girl?

That's way too much formality for an internet forum. What's wrong with just a simple hello?
We ain't bleedin' royalty, that's for sure.
Why don't you just take it for granted that it's a girl?Because taking the word of a complete stranger on the internet seems like a stupid idea?

I don't know, maybe something to do with it being her introductory post? She was just trying to be nice.
Because taking the word of a complete stranger on the internet seems like a stupid idea?Alright, I'll just assume that you didn't actually mean what you just wrote, because taking the word of a complete stranger on the internet seems like a stupid idea.
That being said, she does seem like she's just trying to rack up enough posts so she can post this link to a website that will apparently blow our minds into submission.

She was just trying to be nice.I think the worst thing about it was that it was her introduction post, as that seems to indicate that she is here for the sole reason of preaching to convert people into islam rather than to learn more about leftism. I have asked her if she is a leftist, as nothing so far suggests that.
Let us see how she responds.

that's what arabic sounds like to you? Sounds pretty chauvinist to me.There's nothing chauvinistic about that at all. Swap muslim girl's greeting and islamic learning program with any american fundamentalist's coming in to revleft singing "oh praise the lawd, lemme tell y'all about a great man called jesus-ah!" and I bet you wouldn't have said a thing. Wrong site. Similarly, if some prat from Dublin starts offering to teach about Richard Darwkins, speaking gaelic, I'm not going to white knight and attack all you anti-irish out there. You completely missed the point of that so focused on the fact that the words were in arabic; yet again someone taking offense where it wasn't given.

The words in arabic had nothing to do with the "preaching" though. It was the fact that she said she was going to post a link that would somehow illuminate us to the working of Islam. The words in Arabic were just like any other greeting really.
Anyway, as Sentinel said, it's best if we let her do her own explaining.

I think you are making a bit much of it. I say 'Salam' when speaking in Arabic, and occasionally in Turkish, just as I say 'hi' in English. I wouldn't say that it means I respect my Arab friends more than my English ones. It is just another word.
The 'As-Salamu Alaykum' to me sounds a bit formal to me in Turkish, not quite as bad as two English gentlemen repeating 'how do you do' to each other but quite formal and with certain religious overtones.
In Arabic it doesn't give me that impression. I don't think it implies any great respect though.

Um, no. "Ph'nglui mglw'nafh Cthulhu R'lyeh wgah'nagl fhtagn!" Is a salutation to the god Cthulhu who has been resting for untold aeons beneath the waves in the maddening kingdom of R'lyeh. I saw it as a beautiful cultural exchange.

I think salam is a beautiful salutation. Sallam allekum means peace with you. The time I was in the middle east with my family (years ago) I used sallam a lot.

I thought my dawkins/gaelic parallel was clearer; people who speak gaelic in English speaking company rarely do more than pepper a few phrases and greetings in Irish, the same as muslim girl just did. I didn't mean entirely in gaelic.
Anyway, as Sentinel said, it's best if we let her do her own explaining.Go nuts. She's got more of my time in this stupid thread than than I've ever given to Jehovahs witnesses or other crazies in the street.

And that there is one of the most annoying characteristics of the modern-day leftist.
Modern Islam has an even worse track-record then modern christianity; I fail to see the reason that we're expected to be so nice to their crazies and avoid criticizing them when its perfectly acceptable to do the same with the Christians.
