View Full Version : Creating a Revolutionary Website

In the next few weeks, I'm going to try and create a Leftist website that is geared specifically to redirecting displaced class interests. For example, "I hate immigrants" should become "I hate capitalism for forcing people to leave their homes and driving down our wages." Now, there isn't going to be any violent or illegal content on it, but I need a good domain registration site that will protect our anonymity and a good server host that won't violate our privacy to the various American secret police agencies. Does anyone have any good suggestions or ideas?

110mb.com is a good host. Be sure to read their rules though. They have good one-click forums too.

There are some domain registrars that will use the name and address of their own company for the WHOIS information of your domain, instead of your name. Dreamhost does this for example, and getting a domain from them doesn't mean you have to host with them. But this will just hide you from random scum like nazi's.
If you really don't want the secret services from finding out who you are, don't buy a domain. Instead, use some free redirect, redirecting to a free hosting service that doesn't know who you are either.
Also, use TOR. It's a program that will redirect your traffic through 3 random computers. Use that when you request your free redirect, hosting account, and e-mail address to receive the confirmation mails of the previous two. Also use it whenever you change any site configurations, whenever you check your website e-mail and whenever you upload anything to your site. This way, no logs will link your site to you. The same goes for whenever you discuss your site online, meaning you can't make an announcement about your site using your current account on revleft, since it's already "tainted" with your own IP address.
And even with all that effort they'll probably still be able to find out who you are if they're motivated enough to find out. I assume they won't be THAT motivated, but then again, who knows what those guys are up to.
So hiding the link between you and your site from the secret services is quite an effort. Are you sure your site will be so high-profile that you absolutely need to do that?

I think the downside of that is it makes it harder for genuine leftists to actually find you.

I appreciate this info. Actually it's a little too secure for what I need. Basically, I don't care if the FBI, CIA, Secret Service, etc can find out what we're doing, even if they get into the server and see the "secret" stuff going on behind the scenes. What I don't want is for them to be able to brow beat, pressure, or otherwise coerce my web host to take down our stuff with anything short of a subpoena. As for the general level of anonymity, I'm not too concerned about Nazi's trying to find me, but it might be nice to have that extra layer that keeps them more oblivious than usual.

You're worried for nothing. You said in the first post that there won't be anything illegal on the site. Any hosting company will provide the service you need. Your description says you live in Utah. The FBI, etc. definitely will NOT tell the hosting company or the registrar to take down your site. If a site were to have copyright violations, threats, libel, formulas for making weapons, viruses, etc., the site would be kicked off. But you can publicize the topic you described all you want, and no one will ever interfere with it.

The real fear is not that leftists will be kicked off, but that the hosts will treat us with no more concern than they would give to a local Parent Teachers' Organization.

NearlyFreeSpeech are a great host, their policy is to drag their heels as much as possible when someone comes up with a legal case against your site, in fact, if you dont have a lawyer and a tonne of paperwork, they'll just ignore any attempts to get your info. they offer mail drops, phone fax as well.

riseup.net (http://riseup.net/) provides mail, lists, and hosting for those working on liberatory social change. We are a project to create democratic alternatives and practice self-determination by controlling our own secure means of communications.

That also seems good. I'm working with a friend of mine to develop exactly what we want to do with the site, but I'll definitely keep this in mind.

I live in the reddest of the red states. What I'm trying to do is build a site that serves two purposes. 1) It needs to serve as a basic entry level to Marxism. Everything needs to have immediate accessibility. I also want to have forums of some variety where people can raise their questions about communism in a completely control environment with patient and moderated responders. Basically, what the learning forum of revleft should be. 2) It needs to serve to organize various local city, county, and state parties so that people can get in contact with people around them to begin taking action and forming communities.
