Yeh, it makes me hot watching it.

OK only joking. I suppose the conservato-nationalists still drool over it, and at my house we normally watch it to take the piss.

But...but...but...she's the queen! As in, she's the daughter of...the King!

Irrelevant. But that isn't what the speech is about. The Queen simply reads the Government's policy proposals as prepared for her by the Prime Minister's office. That is why people are interested in it.

Still doesn't explain we should listen. Lots of people get involved in bourgeois political parties, doesn't mean we should listen to them except to dissect their claims, half-truths and falsehoods.

It tells us what the Government is going to do over the course of the next year or so. Unless you think the actions of the Government have no impact on us, it is wise to listen.

As a rule, the Queen's speech is the most accurate statement of intent you get from the Government and the least likely to contain too many falsehoods. It pays to pay attention to it.

A bit of searching reveals we were talking of different things. I was talking about THIS (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Royal_Christmas_Message) and you seem to be talking about THIS (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Queen%27s_Speech).

The Queen's speech at Christmas? A complete crock. She's supposed to epitomise the unity of the British people, which is bull. And she has nothing to say. One speech in the past was actually embedded in an episode of Eastenders.

It does, at least indirectly. In hard times, people become more focused on unnecessary government spending. In the 1990-1993 recession, attention focused on the minor royals and assorted riff-raff who draw sustenance at tax-payer's expense. The Queen was forced to drastically reduce the list of these parasites. At that time there was also heated discussion about the Queen's tax-exempt status; as a consequence she agreed to pay taxes. The royal yacht actually belongs to the Royal Navy and the queen borrows it for state visits. The crown jewels she can't touch, thought they nominally belong to her. She's not destitute but she's also not a billionairess.

The Queen's sensitivity to popular sentiment is due to a recognition that the royals are living on borrowed time, that they're an anachronism. The Habsburgs, Hohenzollerns, and Romanovs are long since gone. They'll be joined by the Windsors sooner or later.

Oh yeah. Well it was rather late last night.

I have certainly never watched the Queen's Christmas message and cannot imagine I ever will.

Bush sends final Christmas message

Published: Dec. 23, 2008 at 4:57 PM

WASHINGTON, Dec. 23 (UPI) -- President George W. Bush, in his final Christmas (http://www.upi.com/Top_News/2008/12/23/Bush_sends_final_Christmas_message/UPI-77151230069445/#) message as president of the United States, asked for help for the needy. "This holiday season (http://www.upi.com/Top_News/2008/12/23/Bush_sends_final_Christmas_message/UPI-77151230069445/#), as you rejoice in the good news of Jesus' love, forgiveness, acceptance, and peace, I encourage you to show grace to those less fortunate, just as God showed it to us," Bush said. "By serving those in need and through other acts of love and compassion, we can honor God's goodness and affirm the immeasurable value God places on the sanctity of life."
Bush and his wife, Laura, plan to spend their last White House Christmas at Camp David (http://www.upi.com/topic/Camp_David/), the presidential retreat in Maryland. They will be joined by their extended family, including former President George H.W. Bush (http://www.upi.com/topic/George_H.W._Bush/).
In a separate message to the men and women in the Armed Forces, Bush said that their families are also serving the country.
"For many of you, this holiday (http://www.upi.com/Top_News/2008/12/23/Bush_sends_final_Christmas_message/UPI-77151230069445/#) season will be spent far from home, and our Nation honors your sacrifice," the president said. "We remain mindful of your courage, ask God to watch over you, and pray for your safe return."Ugh.

The Queen has a MySpace. I actually trolled her for fun and "she" replied back with some snappy comment.

I don't think it really was her. I mean, if the Queen has a MySpace, then she knows more about technology than I thought.:)

"We" (the royal "we") do not respond to mere plebians. Nor do we know anything about technology. All we are good for is state functions and state banquets. Now time for us to have our royal nap.

Channel 4 has an alternative Christmas speech at the same time and this year it will be done by the Iranian President!

He talks about Jesus and how he would side with Iran against America because Jesus opposed Imperialism and bullying of other nations or something.

Does anyone watch that shit anymore? To be honest, i'v experienced x-mas day in the UK around 20 times out of my 24 years on earth...and i'v never bothered to view it once(and i'v always meant to see it every year-just to hear what crap she comes out with). I could quite honestly say that no-one cares. I must ask, do they have anything similar in other countries?

It was certainly better than that of the British Queen, but it was very much a religiously minded speech, he made various references to Christmas being a time of unity for all of the Abrahamic religions (I don't know what the Jews will think of that!), and that a "departure from the teachings of the divine prophets" was responsible for many of the world's problems. However, he did clearly state that "If Christ was on earth today, undoubtedly he would stand with the people in opposition to bullying, ill-tempered and expansionist powers", and that Christ would "fight the tyrannical policies of prevailing global economic and political systems". Other than that, his speech contained little of any great interest.

Its funny really. She mentioned the words 'community' and 'society' many times and alluded to the 'unselfish' 'sacrificial' Jesus as an example for people. These are words that are hardly synonymous with opulent, unelected, privileged, hereditary power. But its the same basic message every year, we are in this struggle together my subjects.

For those who cannot speak Queen language I am willing to offer a translation.

"Again this Christmas time, one's self and ones undemocratic family would like to wish you mere peasants a merry Christmas. As you find yourself opening another pathetic present, one would like to thank you for the millions and millions of pounds stolen from your wages that have paid for ones self to wear most elegant clothes and pretend to have a purpose.

As the economic situation worsens one would like to spit in the face of all those hard working families who keep this country running. If you are unlucky enough not to own a multi million pound business, then ones government and I do not see your existence as meaningful.

Furthermore the savage imperialist views of one's government is wondrous news for all the oppressed classes worldwide. One promises that your oppression will of course continue for as long as I and ones family are elevated against the majority working class. As more of our military lives are lost fighting unjust wars one can ensures that for every brave solider we lose no less than 1000 innocent civilians will be slaughtered for their part in aiding terrorist militant activity.

One wishes a merry Christmas to all the ruling class and prays for a yet another year of oppression to my inferiors."

Merry Christmas everyone.

Meanwhile, the true face of the Royal Scumbags:

In the film, the 24-year-old prince calls an officer from the Pakistani army, who was on the course with him, "our little Paki friend" and, when he sees another officer cadet wearing a camouflage veil, exclaims: "Fuck me, you look like a raghead."

The film will infuriate army chiefs, who are actively trying to recruit Muslims as intelligence officers and translators for the campaigns in Iraq and Afghanistan. Staff officers have insisted the Army's policy must be "zero tolerance to all forms of discrimination". But the casual use of racist terms by Harry, who was promoted to lieutenant last year, appears to add weight to recent claims by a Jamaican-born soldier that he faced regular racist abuse from non-commissioned and senior officers.

After.

These royal shitheads are supported at taxpayer expense. English race prejudice is all-pervasive, starts at the top (the fucking royal family), and saturates every British institution: the police, the judiciary, the army, the universities, the Civil Service, the private sector, and so on. This is the ugly reality which the casual comments of Prince Parasite expose to full view.

Ahmedinejad has as much claim to have been legally elected 'by the people' as GWB does/did, and therefore to at least somewhat represent the people of Iran.
