Recently I have seen an article by Lithuanian author, he says, more than 50 of Lithuanians have opinion, that life in Lithuania during USSR time was better, than now.

Most competent critic of socialism Alexander Zinoviev, doctor of social sciences and famous dissident, in his last books asserted, that socialism was most suitable regime for Russia. What Western people do know about real life of common people in USSR is mostly cold war rhetoric. Brezhnev’s rule was not so evil and opressive, as they think. Bolsheviks, Civil War, Stalin, and GULAG were only history for majority of population, as, say, Vietnam War for Americans today. If not arms race, forced by USA and NATO, much more recourses would be available for satisfying people’s needs. USSR was dismantled by its elite, they believed, if they will get rid of Communist ideology, West will not be hostile to Russia. They envied luxury life of Western elites, and believed, they can afford such life style after privatization of huge state property accumulated by hard work of all society.
More and more the nationalist anti-Russian BS in the "near abroad" is losing credibility. :)
