Free Video Editor to Download

i was using the video editor ulead in school today but it costs about $70 so i cant really get it. what video editors are out there that you can download for free? im really not sure which one to get :confused:

I dont know about Windows XP but my PC came with Vista pre-installed and Microsoft movie maker that allows me to do animations and shit, i really like it.

kdenlive (http://www.kdenlive.org/) seems to be a promising project. Not sure how usable it is yet though.
