whining
Laughing at mistranslations isn't necessarily chauvinist. Engrish is equally as funny as one of those asian character tattoos that translate into "LOVE BUBBLES" because the person didn't bother to find out what it meant beforehand. Find another crusade.

or the legendary woman's sweater that had "very good, very cheap" embroidered onto it in Mandarin. . .

Chauvinist garbage
He himself apologized for what he said because he acknowledged that it was not appropriate for the context of this thread [referring to thread in politics on the journalist who threw his shoes at Bush and was arrested, after which Iraqi's demonstrated holding banners that were misspelled in English].
Only utter imbeciles and chauvinists like yourself would post in such threads and point out the spelling errors on the banners carried by those protesters.
No, sorry, chauvinists would only do the above, utter imbeciles would be the ones defending what was said even after the person who said it apologized for it. So, that would be you.
Having said that, you are now unnecessarily derailing this thread, I am therefore going to split this to Discrimination.

He shouldn't have had to apologize for it at all. And it wasn't someone calling out Taig on him pointing out the misspelling as he did. It was the absurdly childish way you reacted to a 3 word sentence, and the fact that, in those three words, you managed to figure out that
1. Taig thinks "a-rabs" are stupid.
2. Taig believes he is somehow superior to the people in the picture
3. Taig believes that he would be able to write just fine in Arabic.
Amazing how you were able to infer all that from the subtle nuance found in the phrase "Also lol WUNT".

Yet he did, because he realizes that for the context of that thread and the subject his comments were inappropriate and chauvinist.
You however have not yet been able to get this through your head, so you are a chauvinist.

This is of course inane whining that doesn't mean anything. When someone says something it can mean a lot without having a lot of words in it. The fact that you do not know this (and I can tell that from the few words you just wrote in your post) speaks novels about your intelligence, for example.
However here's another example; when someone writes "I hate black people", it only contains 4 words. Yet, those 4 words mean a lot. They mean that that person considers black people to be inferior, that he hates black people, that he is a racist.
Of course if someone called that person out on it, you would be whining about how they could infer such a thing out of only 4 words.
No, the amount of words has nothing to do with it, the meaning of what is said does.
The meaning of what Taig said and the context in which he said it said enough. The context was Iraqis protesting the jailing of a journalist who was arrested for throwing his shoes at Bush. Those Iraqis were holding banners and demanding the release of that journalist. On those banners they tried to write English to the best of their abilities and happened to misspell something. It is not surprising that they did misspell that, since English is not their first language.
When you still feel the need to make fun of that, disregarding the context of the whole event (Iraqis protesting the jailing of a journalist and the fact that English is not their first language), then you are indulging in chauvinist behavior.
This is so because you expect them to write perfect English, you make fun of them because they don't, and you make fun of them in the context of a serious political issue which ridicules the entire event. You are basically doing the job of the reactionaries for them.
Clearly I was calling Taig out on his comments harshly because I wanted to give a counter-weight to it. Of course Taig does not consciously consider arabs to be inferior, or is a racist. But his comment made in that context certainly was chauvinist.
This is why the idiots who write "lol @ banner" on sites such as 4chan or in youtube comments are indulging in chauvinist behavior, yes, even without using a lot of words.

I think there are two reasons {whatever all things you just called us} like us stepped up to defend Taig's post; first, we know him, and know it was clearly a matter of stupidity rather than bigotry, and second, we felt your response was a bit over the top.
Edit: Also, I have been known to make such statements as "I hate men," on occasions when they are true--like when the scrawny fellow I used to play chess with who never exercises is still a better hiker than I after I've been dancing full time for six months. Sometimes it's best to take a statement in terms of the person making it--that they may be silly or situationally dull, but still quite aware and impassioned about most race/gender/class issues that matter.:)

Entirely this. I'm entirely in the wrong for defending his comments, but you know Taig isn't a chauvinist. That reaction was just completely ridiculous.

Well, I don't personally know him, and I don't know him that well on this forum either.
Of course I do know that he wasn't consciously a racist or anything, but as I said, I wanted to give a counter-weight to his comment so I wanted to do it as harsh as possible.
I apologized for that to him through PM.
