It's the international mark for squatting. Squatters throughout Europe and most North America use it to mark places they're staying at, letting others no it's a safe squat.

thanks a bunch, one more question though. how does that represent safe places to squat? I mean why was an N with arrows chosen or rather developed into the international sign for squatting?

Well the story isn't quite clear, but the version I hear usually is that it was taken from a sign used by hobo's: a circle with a straight line through it, eventually it got known to dutch squatters in the eighties, they started twisting and modifying it, making it more dynamic etc... until it stuck.

It doesnt really mean its safe, it just means that someone has squatted there before.

There's just one arrow on the N. Sometimes feminist squatters add another line to make a cross of the other end.

I heard an interesting story about it one.
The circle represents the building, and the arrow represents the squatter.
The squatter goes in (line in), stays for a while (line in the middle), and then leaves (arrow!).
