Talks between striking unions and Budapest Airport have broken down causing more delays and flight cancellations at Hungary's biggest international airport.

Two unions at Budapest Airport, a unit of Germany's Hochtief, started an indefinite strike on Wednesday over demands for improved labour conditions, a new collective agreement and a halt to layoffs.

In a statement the unions said they saw no chance for a resolution with the airport operator, which failed to adequately address either of their demands.

Budapest Airport said on its website it had agreed to continue talks with unions at 1000 GMT on Monday.

Hungarian airline Malev said on its website it had cancelled 10 flights scheduled for Sunday.

Low-cost carriers EasyJet and Wizz Air cancelled two afternoon flights scheduled for Berlin and Brussels the airport said.

The airport operator said on its website delays of up to 2-1/2 hours were expected for the remaining three low-cost flights originally scheduled to take off until 1700 GMT.

It said delays were expected on other airlines and advised passengers to arrive at the airport three hours before departure.

the unions have a definite upperhand here.
every day they don't work is going to strengthen their position.
this could promote union cooperation too. another bonus
