Films are a form of art. Or the good ones are at least. They are one of those things that can be art or entertainment, or both, just like literature.

Also, they are in the same place I think because they both tell stories and many films are made from books.

Films are a form of art.

then shouldnt this be an art forum?? i dont see anyone discussing picasso, or posting pictures they've drawn

and music is a form of art too, but it has an own forum...? i fail to see the logic

Yeah well like I said, films and literature usually tell a story unlike most art and music.
But I agree they are differant things.

Johnny Depp was awesome in Fear And Loathing In Las Vegas.
And Captain Sparrow is a total badass.

your argumentation of the similarities of film and literature and the reasons for keeping the said forums together is astonishing.

and even tho i admid to liking johnny depps acting in the classic movie fear and loathing i see nothing but negatives in having theese forums merged. i think discussion about litterature and film when separeted would be more interesting and indept. and yes i would also like to have added an artistic forum for painters and alike...

I don't really like Johnny Depp. I dont hate him, but just hes not great. I like many of the films hes in though, the ones by Tim Burton.

I think it's purely because people don't post as much in these two sections, so they just joined them to make it smaller. Nothing to do with the actual topics I don't think.

And on a side note, if you read Kant for literature, that's first of all, surprising, second of all, belongs in the philosophy forum.

because movies rip off books.

Well, film and literature are both "written" forms, so there's that. They're also often narrative- as opposed to the plastic and graphic arts (which is a forum members interested in painting and the visual arts can post in fyi) so I really don't see why it's a problem for them to be together?

Portraying film as a somehow lesser form than capital-L Literature is just silly and paternalistic.
