reading the comments on this article just gets my blood boiling. as a staunch secularist, i'm against sharia law being implemented in the uk. it is right that this was challenged but the debate was hijacked by american neocons who wanted to use the non-existent threat of an "islamic takeover of europe" to justify more zionist and imperial warmongering.
i mean just listen to them. they refer to us under the blanket term "europeans" as though we were a monolothic bloc rather than a large and diverse continent with countless different cultures and histories. they take the words of the vile mark steyn as gospel, despite his arguement being rejected by all serious demographers. the of course we're told we need jesus, that we are "too socialist" and that they don't want to "save us" again. and i'm sorry to say this is a typical american attitude. they have become so powerful militarily and economically that they do not feel the need to learn anything about the rest of the world. so they just talk down to us, suggesting, often without any knowledge or experience of the subject, what is best for people who reside in foreign lands. of course when imperial powers used to do this it was in the name of "civilisation". now it's about "freedom and democracy". but the principle is the same.

sorry if this post offended anybody. i didn't mean to imply all americans were ignorant or arrogant. but there does exist a real problem with the country's attitude to the rest of the world and this needs to be addressed through education before anymore foreign countries suffer.

Im pretty sure more people in britain thought like that when the UK was a superpower. Its important to remember that not all Americans are neocon tossers.

Many of these so called "American" posters are European provocateurs. You should come visit this country for yourself and form your opinion properly.

Well, there aren't any Islamist parties wanting Shari'a law that have won seats. They act as if radical Muslims have taken control already, because they're paranoid. It's all a big conspiracy theory. Never mind that these courts can't contradict the law of the UK. I'll believe it when I see it.

I myself am an American. If anyone wants to assert it was my choice to be here ,they can go fuck themselves.
