Rolling Stones is what I voted for.
Followed by The Clash, David Bowie (not a band, ok), T. Rex.

Can I be the first one to say that you've missed out the Gang of Four. :)
Not to mention The Jam, Echo & The Bunnymen, Wire, The Fall, Jesus & Mary Chain, Buzzcocks, Magazine, the Small Faces, Kinks, The Pop Group, Massive Attack, Arctic Monkeys.
But seriously, to include Depeche Mode and Placebo and none of the above bands is just weird.

You're probably right, but to meet everyone's tastes i'd probably need a poll max of about 1000.
BTW I was going to put the kinks in but i thought that would alienate the majority demographic of the forum a tad.

Yeah, there's been so many great bands over the years - not to mention the two best bands to come out of Belfast: Stiff Little Fingers and Them.

other;
a few that i can come up with.
80's; cocksparrer, madness, sham 69, specials, the selecter and most other oi and ska bands...
now; audio bullies, oi poloi, amy winehouse
think cocksparrer and sham69 (tell us the truth album) would be my fav's

Still a substandard poll.
Why do you insist on gropuing Blur with Gorillaz and Joy Division with New Order? I don't care if they had some (stress) similar members, but their productive outputs were very much different.
And i'm disappointed about a lack of The Fall.

.
Er, to save poll slots?
Maybe if there was some remaining, i would have put them seperately, but then id still have to accomodate other bands like the fall, who im not familar with so ive had to centre the poll round my musical tastes.

Er, to save poll slots?
Music ones are too big and diverse to warrant the usual polls I think. Give everyone a vote and manually count em' !
Then someone will demand a recount

Crud, i missed new order/joy division. I would have voted for them. I voted for the clash but i feel like a traitor to blur/thesmiths/ledzeppelin/neworder/joydivision

I like cocksparrer, but no way are they the best UK band, they aren't even contenders for consideration.
Incidentally i voted for all tne option, and nominate Belle and Sebastian.

Crass only has a few okay songs but it's really really crappy band.

It's got to be Napalm Death or Conflict.

I voted for the Who and the Clash, but would have voted for instead, mentioning them also on this thread, the Jam, King Crimson and the Specials. Lots of 'the' bands.
But there's no way any one poll could encompass all possible contenders.
