economic crisis

can someone give me a short, quick explanation on the origins of the economic crisis, and what it means for people. it needs to be sorta simple, for 15 year olds. so not patronising, but okay for people who know very little about economics. it's for a speech i'm doing; i figured i need to explain it for those that don't grasp it, but am not sure how to go about that.
